So, I finally visited this local computer shop nearby. I was looking at cases and while talking to the workers I found out that they were both heavy gamers. They had never heard of NS2 nor NS1. I showed them the Gorilla trailer and they were both floored at the hybrid concept. I think I spent about another ten minutes just answering their questions about the game.
Two future NS'ers on the way I'm sure. ;)

Go to a very popular local internet cafe/PC gaming centers.
Open up steam and login using my Steam account (as the store generally won't have NS2).
Then I restore the NS2 backup from my USB pen drive and start jamming away.
I always have group of people (mostly gamers) surrounding my station, watching over my shoulder and asking what game I am playing as NONE of them have heard of NS or NS2.
I generally ask anyone of them watching me long enough if they would want a go.
Very good way to promote NS2 to your local PC gamers.
They don't seem to reply much in thread though, the most effective way I managed to convince people to buy ns2, is by telling my friends on my steam about it. xD It's a shame the game isn't sold on steam yet, that seems to be the biggest obstacle when I recommend it to people. (because either they don't want to buy it on another website, don't have paypal etc.)
Yea, this game needs to get in the store page !!
though i think, we would need more GOOD servers before that happens?
And enough income to expand them.
I just pre-ordered the other day and I was extremely disappointed with my options for servers. Most of the ones below 100 pings were empty. Heck, there's only like 5 servers with people on them at a time.
I know the game is in development, but you really need to get more players into the game. At the very least get the game added to the steam store and continue with pre-orders getting you into the beta.
I don't see myself playing(see: testing) this game at all the way things currently stand.

The beta (or more like alpha) testing phase of NS2 is pretty much a failure considering the number of pre-orders that UWE received. I'd say the game is only being tested by less than 5% of all pre-orderers due to game's poor optimization and, combined with erratic direction of development of the game, many of them simply don't test the game anymore. Sure, there are some dedicated players out there and new players come and go but that's only a small portion of all pre-orderers. Some of them, myself included, bought the game in 2009. That's 3 years of development and it is only a couple of months away before it gets released to the public. It is just shame that NS2 couldn't take full advatange of all these time and players that were offered to UWE.
Let's not overreact. I'd say the alpha and beta testing has actually worked out really well! The game's been getting a lot of attention already, the preorders paid for development and a lot of feedback has been received.
Yes, there's still issues. Nobody knew exactly how long development would take when they bought the game. And yes, the way things went definitely deterred a part of the pre-order customers. Then again, I can imagine that some people simply bought it to help development along, without having the intention to help betatesting.
In the end, I'm sure a lot of players will come back when 1.0 hits and even more will join in through new sales.
Huh? UWE doesn't pay for the servers...
they're going to need to...if they have a big launch, are they relying on the community to put up 100% of servers?
You can expect it to be very big once it opens up on steam as a released product.
I would not ask if I had not heared IGN volks talking in a utube clip about the end of this year...

We've been told that summer occurs at different times depending on where you live.
So basically they don't know, but soon.
ah ok -should have read the 2nd line --> Ok so I guess I cant wait any longer and give them my money for at least the Beta -I waited for TOO long.

IGN also thought they had "noob commanders" while they were actually playing in a modded combat server with no commanders, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
