<div class="IPBDescription">somehow seems out of place?</div>hi all, i'd just like to share my opinion
its something i noticed recently, that with current technology and capabilities, it should be possible to do it differenty.
back in ns1 days, alien buildings were mostly just "dropped" and suddenly pop up.
to make it clear to what i'm talking about, lets talk about the marines first.
to make sense of it, the rines have nano technology, and are even capable of immediate phase, so it is not exactly too far stretched when the marines just "drop" the skeletons of the buildings, in which the marines then only need to "build and fix" to make the buildings work.
in comparison, the aliens are organic... unlike gorges which kinda just spits the structures associated with it out of its cute belly through the mouth, the other structures such as hives, whips, etc, doesn't have it. since the said buildings grow on infestations, wouldn't it make more sense that once the commander builds the said building, the "organism" then slowly emerges from the infestation ground instead of just warped/ dropped in? i mean, would make more sense to see it "grow" than "dropped", wouldn't it?
Edit: well, coz i kept thinking when aliens "drop" (very often used word here) a hive, its always just suddenly POP - in front of your eyes, not exactly alien growth isn't it? - END EDIT
of course, this would mean some animation will have to take place in the creation of said buildings, and might slow down gameplay etc (imagine khammander making 5 whips and 10 RTs amongst other buildings in short time, the player near those buildings might get slow fps, since rendering those animations take pc resources) ..
just my 2 cents!

that is the main point of what i am saying :S
unlike back in ns1, i believe we have better engines and computer resources to do more :)
There are some alien buildings that actually grow out of the infestation (like whips). But as said, others do not. It shouldn't be a performance problem or a heavy development task to just let them grow from a tiny little structure to its normal height. Would look way better than the plopping.
Harvesters and hives may be a problem tho. Harvesters could break out of the infestation near the res node and be very little. Than it grows slowly and has an animation that moves it to the node like a slug. Than it bites the node and grows to its final height.
No idea for hives tho...
