Hive dropping

Remote hive dropping really should be removed from the game in some way.
I've played many rounds on marine side where we were killing hives left and right only to have aliens drop hives in locations they were no where near (no infestation or lifeforms) making it impossible to consistently take down the hives and secure our base. This both drew out the game but also turned what looked like a sure marine win into an alien win just by keeping us running around constantly (a simple gorge with bile bomb could take out a pg or power node rather quickly with no marines around especially with the lag and performance drop makes gorges near invincible in cc/hive locations). Didn't seem to be any counter especially since hives have considerable hp when first dropped.
The whole idea of a hive popping up behind marines with absolutely no link whatsoever to the aliens base as a bit ridiculous. I'm all for sneaking a hive in behind enemy lines but there needs to be some sort of link via infestation or lifeforms.
I'd like to see something change in this respect. My suggestion is:
- Require infestation to drop a hive OR require infestation for hive to build automatically
- Related to the above, if you can drop a hive remotely with no infestation, require a gorge to build it.

But if the alien team can drop hive after hive, it sounds like your team should concentrate on cutting down the resource towers too - hives aren't cheap!
this could work. however, a hive is currently taking 2 minutes to build without a gorge (that's 20 resticks) making it rather risky as the marines might easily find it in time if they are scouting every now and then.
in mid to lategame, you can also prevent new hives from popping up occupying the tech points with command stations. add an observatory (and possibly some other stuff) for beaconing and you even have a tactical advantage, so it is not necessarily wasted res for your team.
This was implemented and removed. I like the way it is right now! Why? Because as you say, it turned a sure marine win into an alien win. As alien, it's very risky to drop a hive in nowhere, this must be rewarded. If marines find it, then it is 40res lost, if aliens succeed it's an advantage to them. If the game turning too badly desperate for aliens that they drop a last chance hive, the marines have to be careful, they have the scan which can be used to check hive positions!!
One more time, you lost not because of aliens OPness but a lack of experience. As Marine commander, i ALWAYS check possible hive locations, and secure them with a command station and a phase gate if needed...
Its a hilarious turn around and makes things more interesting - rewards aliens for being sneaky.
And it'd be nice to drop command stations, yeah, and prevent hives. But they'll die instantaneously to 2 gorges with bile bomb. This is really only a problem in the bigger maps mineshaft and docking since marine movement is significantly slower even with jps. And then you can drop like 3 at once.
I feel something needs to change late game from hives being dropped willy nilly. Maybe make successive hives more expensive? First hive 40, next hive 60, then 80... or something like that would at least slow it down a bit. Or hive build rate is relative to proximity of other hives?
And the games that this happened were not games where aliens had most res nodes. They had about 4 depending on how many we had killed at any given time.
By the time it takes to get a marine team to take down a hive, the aliens will have saved up that res easily to re-drop.
I mean, doesnt it seem a bit ridiculous that you can clear a room as marines and a hive drops in front of your face? I enjoyed ns1 celerity/cara gorges running in just barely making the hive drop (or just barely missing it due to marines). I just think there needs to be that aspect again.
This would totally mess up alien tech since 2 hives are required for most of their abilities and 3 for the late game ones. Increasing the cost of consecutive hives is just ridiculous. It'd be like saying that each time you buy a weapon, the cost increases for the next one...
As for sneaky hives being dropped, that's what scans and scouts are for. If the aliens, off of 4 rez nodes are able to drop hive after hive and come back and win the game, then you weren't taking their hives down fast enough. Depending on how many people are on your team, getting 2-3 to have GL will destroy hives in less than 20 seconds. Throw in a FT or 2 and it goes down even quicker. If you don't win after the hive is down, spread out to find their new hive. Also, if you have all but 4 rez nodes, then you should be rolling in rez and thus dropping command stations at every single point, thus preventing this.

+1. Bet your commander will never make the same mistake again.
