Hi
First of all, sli does not work for me so i've disabled that.
Secondly.. My fps is horrible and unplayable.
When i start the game and enter the lobby, (where you chose alien/marines), my fps is fine, around 100. I think they capped it there, (dont ask me why). I've got a 120hz monitor so I would prefer 120 but 100 is ofcourse acceptable.
As soon as I join alien or marines my fps drops down to about 60 and when I'm playing it stays around 20-60. I have NOT V-sync enabled, it is disabled in the gpu driver. Why am i getting so low framerates? MY gpu load is around 20-50%. Other games are working fine.
Its not a hardware/cpu/overclock issue here so dont post stuff like that :)
Changing graphicoptions higher or lower does not help aswell :/
Specs:
2600k @ 4,5
OCZ SSD Vertex3 120GB MAX IOPS
ASRock Z68 Extreme7 GEN 3
Corsair AX 850W 80+ Gold
Corsair 16GB (4x4096MB) CL9 1600Mhz
GTX 680 DC2 x2 (sli)
Thank you for your help!!

if this is not the issue, try lowering the resolution or unchecking certain graphical options such as anti-aliasing or atmospherics. the detail level does not seem to have a drastic impact for many people.
finally, it can also depend on the server: when your client receives very few updates, it means a lot of artificial prediction has to be computed which can also lower your fps. use net_stats to check the tickrate of a server. i don't exactly know what good tickrates are, but i guess they should be somewhere around 30.
1) You need some driver updates.
2) You have been playing on a high-ping low-tickrate server, which will affect your FPS dramatically. Try playing on a low-ping high-tickrate server like All-In/156 if you are in the USA or Skulkrsh/HBZ in Europe.
3) You may be exaggerating your fps drops. Please post up some pics with your low framerate.
SLI/Crossfire are not currently supported but probably will some time after 1.0.
Having a good computer isnt always enough to get good FPS in games. Its just part of the equation.
Ive tried toying with the resolution etc, doen't help
I have the newest drivers
I am not exaggerating my fps drops. Im checking my fps, gpu usage etc through afterburner
There's only one other game that got the similiar problem, arma II.. Low gpu usage. Its like the gpu think the adaptive power is on but it's not. It's set on full power or whatever it's called..
Battlefield 3 works fine. Got 99% gpu usage on both gpus.
Thanks
Power management mode is on Prefer maximum performance on global. This gave me an idea,,, perhaps i need to change it individual with each game. Will try it when i come home and report back
It's weird because i cap fps, 100, both in menu and pre-game (choosing sides) but as soon as i join in the gpu usage drops aswell as my fps. So annoying.,.

Fault of unoptimised game, nothing else. You get 100 fps while dead/respawning aswell, but as soon as you actually play the game it drops down again.
Nothing you can do.

Do you have the same problem?
Yeah. Running 2600k @5.0ghz and GTX 580. Get 100 fps in readyroom/spawning but it drops a lot lower when actually playing. Finding a powerful server with preferably lower than 18 players will make the fps drop smaller. But atleast i havent found any way to actually improve it on the client side.
Nothing you can do.

Cause you thought you were gonna have the same fps dead watching things and playing ?
Nope, you're not gonna have 100 fps while playing, besides, whats the point ?
I have a 570, sure my fps drops sometimes, but its not hurting the gameplay at all.
If a 680 has 20 fps sometimes, the game's not at fault, lesser GPU have better fps than this.

Yes, ive come to expect the kind of performance where i can get constant 120fps by tweaking graphical settings, no matter what happens in the game. Now i do understand you cant get that in ns2, hence why i call it a fault of unoptimised game.
As for fps drops not hurting gameplay, thats your opinion. In my opinion fps drops do hurt my gameplay, as things like mouse sensitivity dont stay constant.
It is the games fault. It depends on whats going on with the server a lot, and i dont know why you even blame the gpu, when the cpu is at fault. Now, you cant really get a more powerful cpu or rest of the components on the computer than that reasonably, so what is there left to blame?
I have a similar setup (i7 2700k @ 4.7ghz, gtx 570) and the game runs at probably 80-100 FPS at game start, but as the game progresses it will just decline usually settling around ~50-60 in late game. On some maps when the map gets a little more busy it will go down to a horrific 20-40 =P Tram, parts of Docking and Mineshaft all have some pretty notoriously bad spots in them where frame rates will just get murdered.
beta, they are aware of and working on it, bla bla bla
- Wait for further performance improvements (NS2 has improved dramatically from the initial alpha builds and will continue to improve up to and even after the v1.0 release)
- Play on servers with known good hardware (e.g. Team156, All-In, Steel Confessors, 420, SPB, HBZ, OldAssGamers, SkulkRush, Monash, any of the NS2HD or NS2Servers.com).
Also, it wouldn't hurt to do some benchmarking (as specified in this thread), to get a more accurate picture of your system's performance matches up against others.
PC #1:
CPU: intel i5 2500k sandy bridge
GPU: HD7870
Ram: 8gb 1600mhz
Marine
PC #2:
CPU: intel i5 2500k sandy bridge
GPU: HD5870 x 2 (crossfire)
Ram: 4gb 1600mhz
Alien
The FPS was as showed:

PC #1 has no issues with the game, at all pretty much. but PC #2 has quite a few (lags, spikes etc). Although the above recorded game was increadibly smooth for PC #2, it still shows a MASSIVE FPS difference. Guess I'll have to do some hardware (memory, gpu, cpu) monitoring to figure out where the bottleneck is.
You had to in Q3, CS.. Otherwise it would be as optimized.
So I just did the same in NS2, I could run the game @ full details and max reso, but I prefer to tweak down some graphics to have more stability and vision, thats just the way I play.
Sure I understand that some people want steady fps and 50/60 fps all the time, but more fps than that is pretty useless imho, I could be wrong.
Comming from a competative play in Counter Strike 1.6 (a few years back) I can tell you that I most definetly could feel the difference between 100 fps and 72 fps. Not necesarily in view, but the precision of weapons drop a fair bit.
I cannot play a game that runs at 20-30fps, its unplayable. it doesnt matter if i change the settings, ive tried turning all settings off, it doesnt matter, 20-30 fps as soon as something starts happening.
This is unacceptable, i can run any other more demand game on the markedet at 60-120fps Crysis, Crysis 2, Metro 2033. Those are very demanding and beautiful games.
my specs are
Windows 7 64bit..
I7 930 8cores 2.8ghz.
6gb ram..
Geforce 570 gtx.
The performance as just started to get worse and worse with each patch. I cannot hit anything with the crazy fps that goes up and down sometimes i goes down to 10.
Im not sure what is gonna be done about it, but hopefully something, again i really dont want to use my money on games my Highend PC should be able to run but cant, sorry.
I have 100 fps in the ready room as well. not much good that does lol.
Windows 8 64bit(Also works good on Windows 7 64bit)
Core i7-870 2.93Ghz
16GB DDR3 1600Mhz
Gigabyte GTX 680 2GB
Having a constant 100fps was pretty much a requirement for competitive NS1. It's a shame the performance just isn't there yet.
Two options for checking FPS in-game
- r_stats
- net_stats (look at client rate)
Also, I think the desired min fps is really dependent on your monitor refresh rate. I have a 60hz monitor, such that I would like my fps to never drop below 60, but wouldn't see much of a benefit for anything greater than 60. In practice, since the fps can vary quite a bit during a match, that would usually mean I'd like to see an average of 80 or 90+ (or a reduction in the variability of fps around the average).
There is no problem in another other game only Natural Lag 2 :P
