When I see someone my FPS dies

Title says it all.
Everything is perfect and smooth until I see another player.
Be it skulk or marine my FPS dies the second they come on screen.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Edit: Sorry I didn't post this on the help section, haven't been on the forums in quite a while.

    Somewhat, I've never had this specific problem before until recently.

    Well the fps should drop when more elements enter the scene because it's more to be rendered but it shouldn't be a significant drop... Unless your GPU is already strained. Try lowering settings and maybe even the game resolution.

    The specs man! Why am I not seeing them. Also, what kind of FPS are we talking about when you say die?

    i've got a weird FPS thing too

    Ready Room 100fps no problems.

    In game, no players, looking at a wall that is facing the edge of the map (so assuming its not rendering anything except the wall) 40-60fps.

    Its like the game rules each away the performance.

    ati5870
    amd955 3.4ghz quad
    8gb ram

    Have you tried verifying your game files? Maybe a mis-downloaded LUA file is acting up or something?

    Try the wireframe-mode (its in the wiki) to check it isn't rendering anything behind that wall. Also, check and see what r_stats says about the num of primitives drawn, compared to for example the readyroom.

    My FPS takes a nosedive as soon as I engage enemies. I can see them and everything will be just fine. I'll be a skulk bounding across the room, see 3 marines a few meters away, move to engage and as soon as I get within range, BAM, sub 15 FPS. Its not a recent thing though, its been like that since alpha.

    Could you explain the wireframe-mode and the problems around this issue a bit more !?

    I have the same problem as the threads author having huge differences beetween ready room and ingame fps.
