•We made some big changes to physics to get some nice performance improvements. Unfortunately there are still bugs so no patch this week.

The change to the physics system simply was too big and introduce a lot of issues along with some nice performance gains. But the game still has some issues that make Build 217 un-shipable, next week is the week for magic and candy :)

216 is perfectly playable, and ANYTHING for some 'nice performance improvements'!!!! Hopefully it's something like a 20-30% gain :) :) :)

Ment to ask, what kind of physics-improvements would that be? PhysX-physics (as in ragdolls), or movement\clipping-physics?

Don't now where you got this, but build 217 is now scheduled for next week.

atleast give us an exo teaser! :D

Not sure why so much fuss about EXO, its just HA from NS1 with a built in gun (aka hmg / minigun / whatever).

So far as I understand it, both. All physics now work under PhysX and have affected movement/clipping.

This actually sounds awesome! PhsyX offloads physica calculations to the GPU doesn't it? Exactly what this game needs TBH, my GTX 570 barely gets touched in NS2. I can see why its a massive performance improvement

    What about the ATI Users?

I would feel kinda betrayed, if the good features only run on nVidia D:

It can utilize CUDA-capable GPUs (read: proprietary nVidia), but NS2 does not use this (last time I checked anyway). Besides, there comes a significant overhead with offloading work to a GPU, so trivial calculations (that are also an integral part of the game-logic) likely wouldn't get offloaded anyway. It simply runs on the CPU, no differentiation of any kind based on the GPU you happen to have.

I can confirm that performance will increase significantly (as in, noticable) for ATI users as well. I'm running an HD7970.

Just hold on people, the patch will come; It's done, when it's done. (Oh, I can be so poetic....)

    That appeases me!

I think no one want's to really argue with you guys, that you should release patches quicker.

It's done when it's done (remember Duke Nukem chief director claiming that phrase for almost 10 years of development? :D)

Honestly, UWE should drop the promise of any fixed cycle at all like ATI did drop the monthly patches. Simply release the updates when they feel ready, no matter how long it takes as long as every update feels consistent, not only minor updates, nor giant behemoths.

Simply stop the promises, you're doing yourself no good by promising anything like that.

+1, I'd rather want a perfect game experience than a fast release.

UWE should reconsider his timetable with a release in late-summer.

How much of a performance improvement will there be? I can't see past 200% without changing infestation, NS2 needs at least that much of an improvement to be playable for me, but I'm sure it can get past playable when NS2 becomes properly optimized.
