Storm The Base!

<div class="IPBDescription">...mmm. Nummy marines...</div> One tactic I've always found useful in dealing with marines making excessive use of phase gates is the dreaded rambo skulk tactic. Have the remainder of your team press one of the fortified hives (because if you had two hives, you wouldn't need to do this, would you?) and get the marines' attention. Then... send in one or two skulks into the marine base. Usually they don't have enough turrets to stop you, and on maps like Eclipse they often are not placed well enough to even hit you after you get past them...

...and go after their Infantry Portals.

Why not the CC, like most people will say to do? Mainly because IPs are a soft kill - it takes less than 1/8th of the time it takes to kill a CC to kill one IP, and they are half the cost of the CC. Plus... your team mates are keeping the marines confused and killing some of them, and if you destroy even one IP, the marines lose their spawnrate advantage. Get them down to one, and you've got a short time of being on even footing. Get them ALL... and the commander will start panicing, and trying to pull marines off the front. I've had this tactic work a time or two, and its worth considering.

Remember, the base rush works best at 15 minutes into the game, not 20 seconds.

I'll give it a whirl next time I'm online, usualy I'm too intently focused on taking out the tf to think of the spawn portals. However I can already see the counter to this which is something that I would as the commander do out of hand anyway, put a spawn in the forward hive. This is a good tactic anyway since it stops the portals being bunched up and vunerable by letting marines spawn somewhere safe.

Besides, if it was a perfect strategy, then what would be the point? Yes they can use distress beacon, but I know a good number of other tactics that might or might not help. This is just something that hasn't been done too often, and should probably bear some looking at.

Sides, Observatory should be a target anyways - its another good soft kill.
