<div class="IPBDescription">Do you run a NS strategy site?</div> One of the best ways to learn strategy is to see it employed in actual games - or, more precisely, demos. I think one thing the NS community REALLY needs is a repository for demos of particularly good matches, along with a breakdown of some of the more effective strategies employed. Reviews of the matches will include answers to questions like
Why did a siege assault fail here?
How did the aliens get their 2nd hive so quickly?
Why were the marines able to take back their hive outpost?
etc.
So this is an appeal to the webmasters of NS fan sites (www.planetNS.com comes to mind, but I know there are others) -- if you have a strategy section, consider posting demos! The average NS demo is ~5MB; compressed in a zip, that can drop to a megabyte, so it's not a huge drain on space or bandwidth. There is no better teacher than experience.

You would have to get a demo from the person that killed the siege farm, and it would be nice to have a better view of how it was set up.
What I am trying to say for a demo to be a truly effective teaching tool, you would need the ability to see multiple POV's.
I was looking at a demo viewing program the other day, it was at <a href='http://www.geekboys.org' target='_blank'>geekboys.org</a> would something like this help get around problems like this?
That being said, this is still a good idea. A demo database site wouldn't be hard to set up. I was working on one for Warcrafct 3, but that project died. I might be able to revive that code. =)
On the other hand, players could record short demos which show things like proper chamber placement, flight tactics for lerks, etc.
Nah, just kidding, It was a good game.

The main goal of this page is to let newcomers have some idea of what's going on in this game. I've borrowed some from the official manual just put everything in the same place so it's a lot easier to find.

I have a demo of Skulk circle strafing a turret, except the Skulk guide isn't finished yet. Ces le vie.
Still, I use screenshots fairly well.

Nice work on the tactics guide, & some effective use of screen shots, as you say. I'd recommend people read it. I would be happy to host it on my webserver, if you wish.
Your <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> guide is good, although you mention the possibility of the initial-game <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo-->s splitting up. This is effectively taking a chance that the <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> team is incompetent and won't get to either hive. Your suggestion of two <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo-->s to one expansion hive is far more reliable (and very difficult to counter). In my experience, <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> to the hive, find a vent and evolve to <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo-->, otherwise you risk losing those valuable 13 RP's to a lucky <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo-->.
<!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> guide, likewise, is good. Brilliant tactic having an <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> stalk the corridors. Strike "ph33r" into the hearts of those <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo-->s. My only addition is my version of your redemption surgical strike. I find an <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> is by far the most effective with regen/cloak/adren. Run in, take down ONE building (leave if you get down to half health or less), run out, cloak, heal. Repeat. Maim any <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo-->s that follow. There is little a <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> team can do to counter this tactic short of mounting an assault team to take you down. Helps to have a battery of def towers to heal you up faster. Try it, I think you'll like it.
PS. As far as I'm concerned, if redemption kicks in, you were cutting it too fine anyway. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

PS. I love Nazguls site, have known of it for awhile.. the gorge guide got me on the right track , and the others arent bad either. Keep it up!
as for Taz:
i didnt read everything since I am not in the mood and know what I am doing. I will sometime, but I do have to say that you should work on the site layout before you imrpove any content.. the sidebar is kinda odd where you can only click the names and not pictures, the colors are bright and cheesey and the text lines go too far which make you need to scroll over a lot. I am not trying to be mean, I am justing giving you a few tips to imrove it.
I'd much rather open pages in new windows so I can read them without constantly scrolling left and right.

am i in timedemo mode? how do i turn it off?
If you want to alter the demo speed, just put the modifier at the end.
"Playdemo Elric 2" will play a demo at double speed and "Playdemo Elric .5" will play it at half speed. Geekplay really doesn't do anything that someone with basic console knowledge can't do themselves.
When HLTV works and is used in scrims, its demo is the best since you can go to other players and view modes at your own choosing.
don't know if it works well with commander stuff though and i never tried it
but could be good to be tested i think

Come check out the site!
<a href='http://www.flatline-server.com' target='_blank'>http://www.flatline-server.com</a> is already doing this. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Currently, we're only serving as a mirror site for Shambler.net, but we're encouraging people to send in their own matches as well!
And i thought movies were like..HUGE, eg the gorge rush DEMO was 5 meg, and apparently the actual movie is about 25 meg...
