Pre-orders made through Steam won't have access to the beta, unfortunately. You would have had to pre-order through UWE prior to game going up on Steam to qualify for that.

1. It was probably mentioned before you bought it. There was a little confusion in the first few hours, but after that everything was updated to remove any mention of beta access for steam orders. 2. It has nothing to do with it being through Steam, but rather is timing. The game has been developed for years, and anyone who bought it directly through UWE got access to the beta. Anyone in the past 3 years. The game is getting ready to launch, and so beta access is being closed off. It was just convenient to make this cut-off date be the date that the game went up for pre-order on steam.

UWE allready have 45000 beta testers, and a influx of new players who wants to play the game. ( Not the beta ) would result in alot of angry people. Becouse... Its still beta, not a AAA prerelease marketing hype.

Hi, when I bought the game there were bold letters with an exclamation point stating that I would get instant access to beta. And so I dished out $25 only to find out that that was a lie? No matter how you try to defend it, this is unacceptable on some level. In the future please try to dispel such confusion BEFORE making changes?

You purchased it from the Steam store that showed no indication of being allowed into the beta. Simple as that.

It doesn't say anything about beta access... Also it's not much longer now, October is right around the corner and the pre-order is also a lot cheaper than the deluxe edition after the launch (free upgrade and all :) )

Why would you want to play a BETA? to run into bugs, balance issues, making the game play not enjoyable?
I bought the steam pre order, not caring if I got in the beta or not.
I had a 3 year chance to buy it, being an NS1 vet and knowing everything before most steamers and outside gamers, but I didnt.
Seriously, if not getting access to a BETA RELEASE, with bugs, imbalances, etc, changes the way you look at and feel about a game, then I dont know what to tell you, but it is really sad.
I just learnt about this game a couple of weeks ago. What I most saw is all these videos in youtube and how it meant everyone pre ordering was already playing. Also saw some of the forum posts where everyone was already talking game tactics, balance, what not.
After a few days of reading and watching vids I decided to pre order to be able to play and tehn I just find out I cant.
From my "outsider" fresh eyes (never played NS 1 or anything) this simply shows poor management of the product, probably not intentional, but poor nevertheless. You can argue taht I should read well what I read and that I should do a more thorough homework, but I spend the last couple of weeks watching youtube and reading the forums and all I found was how everyone was having a blast.

i feel sorry for the people who feel misslead. but you will not miss much within those few weeks: features are locked meaning no gameplay content will be added or removed during that time: it is now about performance improvements, bugfixing, balance and overall polish. those are good reasons to wait a few more weeks imo. and as kouji_san said, your preorder is not in vain as you get a free upgrade to deluxe.
