Why get one when you can have both? NS: Spark will add some nice variety for those of you who get tired of the standard tech trees to dip into every once and a while.

I'd rather see a heavy armour marine in an EXO, and when the exo is destroyed the heavy armour marine emerges picking up one on the miniguns with 500 bullets :D

Exos have a large number of drawbacks with few strengths, and cost 50-75 res. Heavy Armor's sole drawback is that you lost 5% speed, and if my memory hasn't failed me it only cost 15 res. And since Heavy Armor scaled, you only had slightly less protection than a fully upgraded Exo currently has.
It looked cooler, could build and weld, could use vents, footstep sounds were awesome and the teamplay better. It also could get eaten and might run out of ammo. It was way more interesting to play as HA than as an Exo. I love mechs, but to be frank, there are tons of examples of mechs and battlesuits that look better than the Exo right now...also having no ammo limitations and no use to the team but fighting is aweful.
But the most annoying thing is that as soon as Exos got researched, some people will run off with them to their personal crusade around the map screaming for welders like a litte ***** and ordering other players to build stuff for them. Make the fist replaceable with a welder, add ammunition, make overheating last longer and make the movement speed even slower as it is right now and see if that will make it better and more interesting.
Yes I would always prefer the HA and for gods sake a jp with an HMG!!
+ Heavy Armor could use phase gates and be beaconed. + Heavy Armor could use any weapon and welders - Onos could eat them (though no devour in NS2) - Can run out of ammo (who cares armories are cheap)

HA are also faster than an Exo, have no blindspots like the Exo, and have smaller hitboxes than the Exo.
I'd take my HA back in a heartbeat. I prefer core movement principles in an FPS that I can really latch onto. The HA used identical movement to the marine, but was better. The Exo is all weird, slow, and frustrating, not to mention un-phasable, no beacon, no weld, and no build.
If I want to win? In a heartbeat. Otherwise I am not so sure.

And let you use any gun, minigun is all well and good but sometimes I just want to shotgun and weld things (not the same things mind you).
Exo is cool but... (I am going to throw some ideas out there)
1. I would like the ability to get out and weld the suit myself and be able to get out to build things. I don't like the feeling of being stuck in it. It almost makes me feel trapped and helpless.
2. I would change the hand from punch to grab. I would love to grab objects or aliens and be able to throw them away. Maybe not inflict a ton of damage but to just give yourself some space between them and yourself.
3. Also maybe give the exos a super jump than can cause a stomp of its own. Skulks are too squiggly for such a big machine not to be able to pummel.
4. Allow gorges to web up there feet and cause them to trip like in Star Wars. haha that would be hilarious to see exos fall like a ton of bricks.
5. Maybe an eject button that launches you out equiped with a jetpack and the gun you got in with. For it being the price it is it would be nice to get a little extra perk. This would only happen on eject tho and the exo would self destuct after. Maybe this could spread a fire on the ground after.
6. I know this is only a visual thing but I would like shots of smoke to come out of the joints of the exos. I think that would be a neat effect.
7. Allow the exos to be an armory for other non-exo marines.
8. create a mini siege cannon build in
9. a mini observatory to scan near by objects. it recharges like every 30 seconds.

When I first heard of the exo I thought it'd be more of a traditional exoskeleton rather than a mech. I.e. a heavier armored marine with augmented strength to be able to wield heavier guns. And yes, I'd still perefer that over the current exo, which, while totally awesome, feels a bit out of place in the in-doors environments of NS2.
It looked cooler, could build and weld, could use vents, footstep sounds were awesome and the teamplay better. It also could get eaten and might run out of ammo. Why was it called exoskeleton in the first place ???? an exoskeleton is an external skeleton that fits around a person that provides additional strength to carry heavy loads. Heavy Armor in NS1 can be classified as an exoskeleton as it fit around the marine and allowed him to carry all that armor.
NS2's EXO is actually a mech .... so why did they stick with the name exoskeleton ?

I would take HA+hmg over exo anyday. Exos definitely need some rethinking if theyre ever trying to become viable alternative to jetpacks in a 6v6 matchup.

As mentioned earlier, the Marine is more or less fused with the Exo, and the official definition of exoskeleton is "An exoskeleton is the external skeleton that supports and protects an animal's body, in contrast to the internal skeleton". In essence, it is an exoskeleton.
Exos certainly seem cooler, though I would prefer it if you could have dual fists with flamethrowers bolted to them and it also replaced your taunt sounds with these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jD4hD9CuBcM
Also you can't buy them, you respawn in one them if you kill 10 aliens before dying.
In seriousness though I think exos are far more interesting than HA.
Comments
Heavy Armor was so much better than the Exos are.

NS1 remake in Spark engine, aka engine NS2 runs on. The official name for this mod is NS2c or ns2 classic
