Hey Guys I was playing on monash combat server last night and noticed a few small bugs that you might want to look into. Not sure if they are mapper releated or code releated.
1.Spawning issues after a couple of deaths. Infinte spawn queue. Player will not spawn. Bug noticed on maps co_pulse, co_assault. (Possible issue is there might not be enough room around tech point for spawning or it's code releated. 218 broke)
2.Random only (team) techpoints have been affected. (Only affects maps with more than 2 tech points in the map like co_assault.) Enemy tech points were spawning next to one another when the tech points were set to random only (team A). Bug noticed on map co_assault.
3.Not sure if this applies to your mod or the NS2 game code in general. When aiming directly up. Crosshair and bullet ricochet animations and hit detection don't sync up when shooting long distances. Aiming is out of alignment. Bug best tested for on map ns2_ladderwars. by Elodea.
Thanks for the feedback on the spawning issues everyone. I had another go at the spawn code yesterday and in my internal tests it seems much healthier now. This should help with the armory not spawning as well. 16+ bots spawning on co_core with no problems. Having said that - it's the same method that I used to test it last time... We're going to do a real-world playtest at 8 p.m. CET today and if it works I'll put up a new hotfix (grr, why couldn't it be perfect the first time?). I'll also arrange the usual playtests for the West Coast and Aus/NZ on the Steam Group.
@WorthyRival: 1. See above.
2. The random techpoints thing happens because we've overridden the tech point picker code to choose two random points next to each other. I think now that Steam Workshop is working we can revert this and use the default NS2 tech point picking code, which uses the map entities. It'll just make it less fun playing on the vanilla maps but I think we can take that hit now!
3. I'll look into this today. I don't think we changed anything to do with aiming, hit detection or prediction deliberately but I wouldn't put it past us to have adjusted something by accident!

Well we putted one ns2france server on combat mode, but we still have crash and need to restart the process few times every day, so we waiting for a new version now.
Tell me if you want some logs (which one) for our server ...
edit 2 : our problems maybe linked to what WorthyRival said.
Thanks for reporting the crashes... I hope that the issue is caused by the same thing as WorthyRival is reporting, in which case hopefully it's already fixed :)
I ran some more tests today and wasn't going to release this before the regular Tuesday playtest but because there are some client-side fixes in there too it's probably worth it!
<u>Changelog for this version</u> <ul><li>Fixed timers on many things. This makes all the skills like EMP, Ink, Resupply, Scan etc. more reliable.</li><li>Fixed Alien spawn protection. They now spawn with Umbra for a few seconds to give them a fighting chance.</li><li>Major changes to the spawning code. It now looks in a much further radius than before, both horizontally and vertically.</li><li>Spawn code will try and place you near your comm chair/hive if it can. But it will also look further away if there is no room</li><li>JimWest fixed the icons on the Marine Buy menu.</li><li>Fixed problems where you always spawn with the welder out if you own one.</li><li>Stopped players using the Armory buy menu if they are using the client-side mod. You have to buy upgrades with 'B' or /buy.</li><li>Tech points are now chosen using the parameters set by the mapper. On maps with more than 3 tech points we revert to picking two nearby ones at random.</li><li>Some balance changes - certain abilities now take a bit longer in between triggering. We'll see how the balance is on next playtest...</li></ul>
Ok so the version on the link above is now fixed. It looks like it exported wrong so it was actually v1.1.9.
Can everyone redownload? New link is here: <a href="https://github.com/downloads/AlexHayton/NS2Combat/NS2Combat-v1.1.95.zip" target="_blank">https://github.com/downloads/AlexHayton/NS2...bat-v1.1.95.zip</a>
Guys. I really tried to join today playtest, but when connecting that French server my NS kept freezing. I've tried both - with mod instaled and also with vanilla. When connecting to classic servers or creating my own (both - combat and vanilla) there was no problem.

We know about the exo and we are looking into balancing that, allso aliens auto win after 25m so marines got to have some big guns to fight with, the problem is that many players save points and go stright Exo, instead of going JP+SG or GL.

I just gave the mod a quick test with build 219 and it looks like another win for fsfod's mod loader! All functionality I tested seems to be still working, so no update needed to work with build 219. Work continues on v1.2...
Also, Jibrail did some more textures for the loading screen for us - here's how it looks now with a new spinner! <img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8445/7984763167_ef9a61c9e8_b.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
I crashed immediately when trying to connect to a combat server when using the no flash mod and combat enabled and installed in the mod folder of menumod.
Also, using the B key as an alien crashed me out of the game every time. The B key worked fine for marines, but aliens had to use the /buy menu.
While I really like it to see the motivation behind this project and I dont want to give the impression of a troll I just HAVE to say it:
HOPEFULLY this mod will never be implemented officially into NS2! Very offensive BUT hear my point! I still remember what happened to the classic NS1 as soon as Combat gained some momentum: It simply destroyed the classic one because WAY TOO many players joined the combat fraction. It just made me sad to see how less people sticked to classic and how many friends just had no interest into classic anymore. Just frags, frags, action, action:(
Hi guys, I'm having trouble installing this on my server alongside a vanilla 16 slot.
I've done all the basics, a vanilla server was running in it's place just fine so obviously -adminpath is set for both of them, they're both pointing to the correct server.xml's, the combat server has <game>NS2Combat</game> in it's XML (I've tried it as an exec flag, no change), I have the map mod ID's in the xml, have the workshop folder in the servers config folder (and the root folder for all servers) BUT I'm seeing this in my logs and I really can't figure out what to do [before you suggest it - i tried downloading standard steam and logging in with my server account but it didn't fix the mod msg's)

And your point is?
NS2 is a full release game intended to have a much wider player base than NS1.
Combat will never be implemented in NS2, so don't worry your precious pretentious little head about that.
On the other hand, NS2 is not going to have only combat mod, it is going to have HUNDREDS of mods for people to choose from, so the limited number of people who actually enjoy classic, can have their games, and the other players who don't enjoy classic, can have their fill too.
Your stupid argument (and it is a stupid argument, no matter how you feel about it) that NS1 was destroyed by combat is ridiculous. NS was almost dead when combat came out to attract new players, but it attracted Counter-Strike players. Anyway, you whole point is moot, this has been gone over hundreds of times in the last 8 years, and bringing it up now just shows how out of touch with the development of the game you are.
Also, you prefer classic to combat, so you get all elitist over people who prefer combat to classic. Is the problem theirs, or yours for being too elitist?
<!--coloro:#FF8C00--><span style="color:#FF8C00"><!--/coloro-->*snip*<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> Right, it was attracting a lot of cs players but also a lot of classic player (who havent already left, like you pointed out so politely) went for it. NS1 was not completly dead at the time CO joined. If you claim that, than you can also say it was never really "alive".
Your statement that its not going to be an official part of NS2 is completly off discussion because UWE stated more than often (in actions and in words) that a good mod can always end up as an official part of NS.

Please don't bring this up again in this thread. If you don't have anything constructive to add about the enhancement and development of this mod, then don't say anything at all.
Asking someone to stop working on a mod is not constructive.

See, that's the problem. SteamCMD is running and my setup was fine for two Vanilla servers, it was on the addition of the Combat mod, and adding strings to enable it that these errors appeared.
I have the port set to 27030 for the connect and 27031 for the query(well thats set automatically) in all the appropriate places and my firewall is set to allow inbound connections on those ports both TCP and UDP to the server.exe in the ns folder. - Which was fine for Vanilla.
Spoon feed me a little; SteamCMD needs to be running - but is one instance per server required? Where does it need to be installed? Did I somehow fluke having the two vanilla servers working side by side?

You also completely mis-quoted me on the few facts that you bothered to pick out of my statement. My point was, and i'll keep it really simple..
If you have to bring this up now, you haven't been around for the development of NS2, particularly the last year or so where this argument was brought out and roasted to death, with the start of this and my Proving Grounds mod.
Also, be careful slating this, because NS2 is a combination of NS1 and Combat. So no doubt when the Classic mod is released (and I don't think it is too far away from being completed), you will of course go and ridicule that, as anyone who plays that further devalues the playerbase of NS2. I hope you get up in arms about every mod ever released for NS2, I mean it's not as if the game is designed to be the most moddable game ever!!
Your contribution to this thread and topic was a waste of time, a waste of everyone else's time, and a massive example of a work of futility. These words are spoken with pity on you (and quite a bit of sarcasm too). Don't invent the emotions I type with... I'll express them myself.

It just made me sad to see how less people sticked to classic and how many friends just had no interest into classic anymore. Just frags,frags,action,action:(<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Right, it was attracting a lot of cs players but also a lot of classic player (who havent already left, like you pointed out so politely) went for it. NS1 was not completly dead at the time CO joined. If you claim that, than you can also say it was never really "alive".
Your statement that its not going to be an official part of NS2 is completly off discussion because UWE stated more than often (in actions and in words) that a good mod can always end up as an official part of NS.

Asking someone to stop working on a mod is not constructive.

maybe a firewall issue? Or running 2 server at the same time at one port.

There was no aggression, it was all typed with a very condenscending looking down upon you way. If you read aggression, then that again is your problem.
