Generally yes, its a needed function - but for us forum-users its mendable, just get fsfod's non-flash menumod, it contains extra keybinds aswell (including last used wep).

apparently pressing 1,2 or 3 is too far away from your fingers? I never have a problem with this. seems like such a frivolous thing to add.
Just because you don't use it doesn't mean that lots of people doesn't find it useful. People often change their weapons between the two most common ones, so why not make it even easier? And it's not just for marines, for skulks fast switching between parasite and bite is also nice. This is common feature in lots of FPS games, including NS1.
Also it pops in discussion every now and then (for example here and here), so it really is wanted feature.
I don't really get why people would want it. There are like 4 max and usually 3 to 2 weapon-slot-keys which are quite close to the WASD keys. If we had like 9 gun array it would be understandable, but now it is more like a habit from some Source games rather than an important feature.
Though I don't mind the quick swap to be in, but I think directly picking one of the few weapons you can carry at once is just as fast and much easier to control, again, I don't mind the feature but highly recommend to use the existing controls, I find them to be quite neat =)
lol why does it matter if you don't want it! if some1 does how does it effect you in anyway ? I would love it bound to my mouse. but as for now guys its easy to make a macro for gaming mice which is even better than a last weapon used as your taking the risk it might put on to ur axe :p
And could you pleasy try to understand that just because YOU don't see the point or prefer something else, that is not the universal truth and other might enjoy a different control setup.

I tried the mod several times. It keeps crashing my NS2 after a few minutes! The mod is great so far, but unplayable if it keeps crashing the game.
And I as well think: A developer needs about 5 minuts to implement all the required buttons, so why not get wheel up, wheel down and last used weapon?!?! There's no reason to not implement it.

Well, I don't want to stop walking to any direction just to switch my weapon, that's all :-P If I need to press 1/2/3 I have to use my ringfinger or mid-finger, so that prevents me from walking forward or strafe left just to switch my weapon? Bad idea to stand around a sec while having a skulk comming along... using the mousewheel is kinda easier and keeps me using my left hand for whatever I need.

Q is also shorter to reach to, so its quicker to switch to. MAKE THE CHANGE
Charlie pls
bring back fast switch!
Every single patch since the game became playable I have been waiting for this to pop up.
Every.
Single.
Patch.
Not even a mention? I understand there may be some difficulty I might not get, but I can't imagine that this would be that hard.
