I sent the free copy to myself instead of a friend

Thanks a lot for sending out a free copy to everyone who owns the game! Unfortunately, though, I thought it was just the full game, separate from the Beta. Because of this, I simply put it into my library thinking I needed to in order to play the full, finished game. I had no idea it was just a replica of the copy I already had, and that I was supposed to send it to a friend. Now that it's in my library, I'm unable to gift it, now. So, did I accidentally ###### up a chance to give a free copy of a sweet-ass game to one of my friends, or are the developers able to help me out on this one, and put it back from my Library to my Inventory? If not, should I ask Steam Support?

EDIT: Now that I think about it, you could probly get 8 keys for it. They'd be saving $5 off retail. That's a win-win right there.
I tried this with the Counter-Strike Global Offensive beta (thinking that the extra invite was my invite) but it said I already had it. But maybe it considers the Steam pre-order different to the pre-Steam pre-order.

Exactly, they both have different names, but they're the same thing.
But yeah, I guess I'll just have to ask Steam Support.

"I pre-ordered Natural Selection 2 a month or two ago, and today I received another copy for free to give to a friend, just like everyone else who bought the game. I didn't see the message before noticing it was in my inventory, so when I saw it in my inventory, I just figured it was the full game, for when it's fully released. So, because of this, I put it into my own inventory. And, of course, only minutes after I do this, I notice the message telling me that this was sent to me to give to a friend. Is it possible for you to put this item ("Natural Selection II Pre-Order) back into my inventory? If not, you can just remove it and I could give you the username of the friend I want it sent to, if that's allowed. Anyway, any information regarding my problem would be helpful, thank you for your time."

And yes, its possible to gifting yourself o_O. Thats...well designed :p. Or can someone tell me which sense do this option. Just to disclaim your free copy? Strange.
I just want to say you have nice, polite wording for a message to customer support. +1 for not being that gamer who rages at the person who can help them! :D
Thanks a lot, honestly! You don't know how much I love to hear that! :D They have a job where they usually do have to deal with the kind of people that you described, it's nice to help as much as you can and brighten up there day a bit, right?
