NS2 Launch party

<div class="IPBDescription">thoughts...?</div>In the most recent NS2 DEV Q&A, Flayra mentioned the possibility of a launch party for ns2, which got me thinking...
It seems unlikely that the devs would have time to organize a large party for the community, but maybe the community can organize one and invite the devs :)
A one or two day lan party seems like it would be ideal. Does any one have experience organizing an event like that?
For funding, it might be possible to do a kickstarter to sell tickets / perks / tournament entry fees etc. That way you can also gauge community interest, and see how many people would actually buy a ticket to the event, before we try and book a venue etc.
I have a feeling SF bay area would be the best place to host the event, but I am not sure.
