Rookie server for pro warmup?

dePARAdePARA Join Date: 2011-04-29 Member: 96321Members, Squad Five Blue
Serveradmins can mark servers as "rookie-friendly". This is an cool feature, but: what does it exactly mean?
50-3 stats from arc-members for example are not really rookie-friendly. Maybe we should rename this feature in: "Pro teams warmup server"
Please, there enough servers right now and most clans have private servers for warmup.

Otherwise this tag is useless.

I think rookie friendly means more like.. helpful to new players i.e not yelling at or griefing new commanders, rather than new players only

Yeah the word rookie is like a big bulls-eye. Even the most watchful admin could do anything about this.

If you want a true noobie server, then you as an admin will need to skill ban. :/ The game cannot do everything for you.

    How should we do that?

Spectate the whole time? Play on there with a handicap?

That means server number 3 is now taboo for me? :P

I think it's up to you to define what "rookie-friendly" means. Something like "use voice chat to help new players, if you're too good adapt your play to the level of the other players, etc". and then you need some admin that enforce the rules with kicks and bans. You don't need to be there 24/24 though.

this is why i initially suggested rookie-only-servers, you cannot really force players to play "bad" on purpose. but UWE has made their decision and it also has several positive aspects. i hope those pro players will grow bored of that abuse over time. other than that, how about a kick-vote?

I'd basically kick anyone who kills me, but that would leave an empty server J/K :P

its quite easy to solve this

get more admins for your sever that are enthusiastic about helping new players
tell them to kick anyone that is farming rookies

if you have a problem with being kicked ... well what are you doing playing seriously on a noob server, compensating for your small ###### ?

All i want to say is that it is an cool idea but in the current form useless.
Its like "ah, a green server. Lets do some warmup with fresh meat"

Why dont make real rookie servers where only the admins can have higher playtime to check things and help people.
This would help both: The rookies didnt get slaughtered (wich isnt very funny) and the pros can play on pub servers with a little bit more skilled players.
Its the best for both sides.

The playtime from steam should be the base for this.

you cant stop pub stomping from good players, there is no rating system, there is no match making, the Pick up gam system doesnt work.

Also, I'm pretty sure ppl just join whatever has a freeslot and a decent ping on it, they're not gunning for the rookie and im pretty sure the rookies themselves are not gunning for the rookie servers.

I originally thought the purpose of rookie servers were to only allow players marked as rookie to play on them tbh.

But I guess that would eventually make that server unplayable after someone gets acquainted with the game, and really would hinge on a constant influx of new players every day.

From my experience it seems like that most effective way to stop pub stomping has been for admins to ask them to leave. Even if it is kind of a ######ish thing to do. Either that or just ask them to command.

I actually thought the rookie-friendly servers were only for newer players, I haven't even tried playing on one.

Do these rookie-servers have the ns2stats mod?

That's up to the admin if they have ns2stats on.

edit: And a whole other matter if they actually keep that plug-in up to date so it actually records stats.

I was just thinking that if they don't have the ns2stats mod then atleast the better players won't abuse these servers for boosting their stats.

Also I think the best solution is to specify who the rookie servers are for, i.e. new or less than good players, and have more admins that will "handicap" themselves by e.g. only commanding or going gorge or simply not trying too hard and I think they should kick players who are stomping all over the new players.

I was going to suggest callling them "noob hunting grounds", but that works too.

It's hilarious when you see clan players not only going to those servers but stacking teams too.
