edited September 2012 in Competitive Play
Since there is general interest in a next event and team Nexzil is already about to launch a nice event on 13/14 Oct, I will throw a cup on 29+30 September. Next weekend is too close imo and it might be good to have a free weekend inbetween the tournaments.

This thread is for signing up purposes since I will decide the format (double elim or round robin) on next weekend when I know how many teams will participate.
I will announce the rules, and streams etc after that weekend when I close the signups, also the name of the event.

To compensate the players for all the nice games they delivered to us so far, I throw in 50€ as prize money.

I will update this thread/post with more info and confirmed teams. I will try to catch every team on steam/ts/pm etc, but feel free to drop me a PM.

Teams signed up so far: (alphabetical order)
- Archaea
- Cyd
- Duplex
- EoD
- Exertus
- Hg

Sign-ups will close on 6th confirmed team for round robin format (7 teams would be too many).

I'm a bit worried about the money involved. There's no HLTV equivalent, the first person spec is still a rought hackjob, the servers may still have some exploits. I really do hope you're able to have a conclusive winner in every game and no bigger disputes and so on.

Obviously you know the present situation way better than I do, I just always think about Murphy's Law when it comes to organizing tournaments.

Oh yes. 50 euros / 6 players in team = 8,33 euros. I can see all the top clans just lining up to exploit for a sum that would pay maybe 1% of a computer that is currently required for playing at that level! ;)

But yeah, we still lack much of the tools required for being even relatively sure no hacking is involved, so all the tournaments are currently running more or less on trust. We are still in practice tournament mode, but that will change at some point. I've ran tournaments in different games and I do very much support the idea, that you always should have rules that are tight and clear and not easily misunderstood. You also should have a way to discourage and disqualify cheating and exploits. These things will be a necessity in the future.

IMHO I agree on hosting practice tournament, but instead of giving 50€ rather give out 2 extra copies or something. Like this is pretty darn hard to keep hackers out as Squirreli said and for nowdays I think it would be much better to have tournaments more for fun and trainings then for money and glory :)

Silly stuff has happened even without money on the line. Money just gives extra provocation for that kind of behaviour.

I'd personally like you to consider any tournament system that provides the teams with necessary breaks between matches (e.g. round robin or at least a specific schedule for elimination matches that accounts for this). No team should ever have to play more than 2 matches in a row and even that should be avoided. Just imagine watching a football match between two totally exhausted teams playing like 80 year olds. It's neither fair nor entertaining to watch.

    @money
well, i will talk with the team captains and if the majority thinks this as bad idea, i can drop it. the decision will be made then next weekend (before bigger announcements), so far i am open for any feedback, harsh criticism and love.

Agree with what's said about the money so far, but mostly because 50 euros is kind of pointless. Buy two copies of NS2 if you want to give out a reasonably priced prize. Then the winning team can donate them or something.

Great initiative though, I'm sure we'll play.

Do you know what time these will be starting?
  • blindblind Join Date: 2010-04-17 Member: 71437Members, Squad Five Gold
I'll probably head for a similar timing as the ones before since we have NA and EU teams in it. But day2 will have more than the finals, probably semis+finals to split the time amount better.

Sorry for not updating this topic much at the moment, but my job presses me hard the current days. Can't await the weekend to tight things up and do some highly needed talks.

Just saying, don't worry, this baby will roll.

Fantastic news blind! I would also suggest perhaps simply buying two copies of the game and giving them away during the stream. I really don't think it would make a difference to any of the clans!

b220 is terrible for competitive play. I hope b221 comes out to fix the problems introduced by b220 before the cup happens.
  • blindblind Join Date: 2010-04-17 Member: 71437Members, Squad Five Gold
Well, there's always a chance a build is kinda broken. But I'll have to stick to the date.

    @Kola
    Whose team mate..what team..I missed something :P

By casting yesterdays games I must agree that b220 has issues to make a tourney. Hope there's at least quickfix for next week.

unfortunatly, i must agree, this build isnt really fit for competitive play.
  • blindblind Join Date: 2010-04-17 Member: 71437Members, Squad Five Gold
I hope the teams won't leave me hanging...even without patch before. I do understand the case, but who says 221 won't have even worse issues?

Why exactly is 220 worse for competitive play than the older ones? Walljump was always broken, alien structure hitboxes have been broken for a long time too. Dont see any that big of a change compared to last builds tbh.
