Community pledge to be helpful for release date?

Of course the NS community is already a very friendly and intelligent place, but I was just thinking about what we could do to be even more on our best behavior for the incoming launch of the game to the masses for the first time (as a retail, priced game). I love this game and this community and want to see it grow and after launch will be our biggest opportunity to hopefully go big.
I'm thinking something along the lines of a temporary tag next to our in game handles(more as a reminder to ourselves than anything else) to be as helpful and friendly as we can to newcomers? As NS veterans we will after all be the reps of the community once the deluge of newcomers come in, and retaining new players will be a win-win for both UW and us the players! :)

Good thought though. I hope we all help the new players and not hinder them. The bigger & better informed the community the better.
I'm not good enough to consume adequate players.
I'll give it another try...
I've been thinking a bit now on how to come up with a good tag that is short, not condescending, easily understood, yet still authoritative...
This is what I've come up with so far:
(in the order of my liking)
[guide]
[iHelpU]
[mentor]
[askMe]
[veteran]
[here2hlp]
[NS2]
[NS2-B]
[NS2beta]
[ns1]
[xPerienced]
Bad/funny ones:
[pro]
[escort]
[iKillU]
[helper]
[iHelpUnUb]
[iHelpNubS]
[etc...]
Eager to read your contributions (in both categories^^)...

Newbies: DO NOT COMMAND. You heard me. Just don't do it and everything will be fine. Get some experience under your belt before taking up the hot seat.
Also, don't get discouraged. If you're getting slammed over and over again change servers, take a walk, but don't over do it and rage yourself out. Also, play marines because aliens suck.
I'd say the exact opposite. Sure play marines for a while to get a feel for the game, but if you play aliens now you are going to be that much better when all this gets fixed
I want new players to enjoy the game so they stick around. The first step to enjoying the game is to play marines. I'll be stacking aliens cause I appreciate the struggle, but rarely is it "fun" as much as it is an exercise in desperation and terror.
How about you don't stack at all, and shoot for balanced teams as best you can.
The only way to balance the teams is for the good players to go aliens. Maybe then they have a chance of surviving to Fade.
That's the kind of logic that screws up our balance numbers and results in one-sided matches. You're not "balancing" anything by stacking; you're unbalancing it. If aliens are underpowered, that's up to UWE to fix.
I could say the same thing about needing to stack Marines to balance everything and justify it using the same logic you are. Your personal opinion about the strengths and weaknesses of one side or another do not give you free license to shove all the skilled players onto one team and roll newbies.
QFT!!
I realised my Black Armor is going to get me lots of attention, so I spent some time in the marine comm chair.. Only won 1 of 3 games, but I expect that to get even worse when we have teams of new people playing :P
Going to spend the last week of beta dedicating myself to the chair, when I can get an opening :D
It's like that one build when only welders repaired armor lol
Let's decide on one tag to use uniformly!
I think [BetaTester] was very good, and if it's too long, just [Beta].
Another great idea is writing the amount of hours played, like this: [462h]
What do you think? Let's decide on one of those two. I'm personally leaning towards the hours thing. It's short and easy once you snapped up what it means (and hopefully it won't lead to anything negative).

<i>and what about us alpha testers
</i>

<i>no very bad, hours played are not a representation of skill or knowledge </i>

I'm an alpha tester too and thought about that, but were also beta testers and it won't matter to the newbies anyways.
It's just supposed to differentiate from the newbies at 0-10h in a somewhat fun way, not be a rank stat durrr
By the way, why is that still a selectable option? I thought it was supposed to be linked to the hours you've played, not a toggle.
...of course, part of my enjoyment on this matter comes from being able to successfully argue the majority of naysayers into a pit of despair! Yaaay! :D
Isn't that the truth though? If you're under 50 hours in pretty much any medium-high complexity game especially involving RTS elements, there is just no way you've had enough experience to really understand and feel the timing, cost/benefit of things, how to play with all units/lifeforms, what are the counters to what etc. etc. etc.
You can read all the wikis and watch all the youtube videos you want, but until you play the game (and in NS2 not just the FPS but also the RTS game) there's just no way to really be an excellent player. You can be a decent player in some niche, but not very well-rounded, likely - unless you're some kind of a genius I suppose.
Case in point: marine walks into an alien hive, kills 3 skulks, starts axing the hive with a crag next to it (because - what does a "crag" do anyway) standing on 3 upgrades which cost 30 tres each. Skulks respawn and kill him. Hive is back to full health, nothing lost. There's going to be a lot of that kind of frustration for coms and teams all over the place on release date...
The in-game tips show you how to use your own abilities, but don't show you what the most effective way to play at certain situations is.
