<div class="IPBDescription">Your Online Source for Info</div>Hello Everyone!

This weekend promises to be something a little different :) Below is the bracket for the event and as you will see we have a mix of sorts for the format, we also have live updates happening at <a href="http://www.wasabione.com/bracket.html" target="_blank">http://www.wasabione.com/bracket.html</a> as this forum doesnt support html. First off we will be doing a Group Round Robin, so there will be games with all the NA teams and games with all the EU teams, then the top two teams from those results will go head to head for a slot in the finals. However; the semi-finals and finals will both be a best of 5 matchup, so things could get interesting.

I will post the rules here as soon as they are updated with the changes in format, but I also want to give you a heads up about substitutions. Subs will be allowed during a round, meaning if you play with 6 players as alien you can swap up to 2 players out when you play marine. Again this update and some other will be coming along in the rules. If you played in last weekends games you will note that the rules from last week still apply.

Lastly, in regards to streaming. I am working with Blind right now to line up the matches for Friday Night (EU) and I will try to stream them, but if that doesnt work out they will be recorded and posted immediately to youtube for viewing. Thank you again to all the participating teams!

Best of 5 sounds exciting. The endless 2-0 scores are getting boring

Having semifinal pairs from the same groups is a bit curious choice (EU semifinal and separate US semifinal). It segregates EU from US until the final and thus forces EU vs US final. Intentional?

Edit: This seems to be along the lines of <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=121801" target="_blank">this thread</a> so I'm assuming it is intentional. The word "semifinals" tricked me. You propably should call them "EU final" and "US final" though, as that is what they are more than semifinals.

This and also why would you make it easier for the NA clans to get to the finals? This kinda continental segregation isn't really fair for the "lower" EU teams (e.g. duplex, Hg and EoD) that still manage to beat the NA dudes. At least reconsider the brackets for this cup since there isn't the same amount of teams in both brackets and the obvious skill difference.

I'm pretty sure they don't manage. Any time we've had our best players on vs Hg or Duplex or EoD in practice/scrim we have won.

I don't mean to be arrogant but that's just not fair to say that they "beat the NA dudes". They've beaten our EU team regularly but not our best NA squad. That's simply not true.
That is if we're keeping score on games that have been played/scrim'd (and not tournaments because we've yet to play them in one).. They don't. Exertus and Archaea are the only EU teams that have beaten Nexzil or Inversion in the majority of games played so far.

So far viewercounts were increasing from tourny to tourny, but even tho there was so much advertisements for the GURU tourny, numbers decreased this time - kinda suprising.
So this might indicate that having an US team in a final = better.

Im <u><b>not</b></u> saying that we would again see 2 eu teams in the final if brackets would look different(tho chances are good :P), but this way its 100% sure it will end up in a more dramatic US vs EU final.

So everything except place 1 in this tourny is up to speculation, since there is a good chance that the loser of the final could also be beaten by teams that lost to the winner... (if you get what i mean)

I don't see the point in doing regional brackets if the rules already state you play your marine round on your preferred server anyways.

I assume it was done to make scheduling easier for them.

Time Eh? time, this allows us to complete all the EU games and the break and move on to the NA games. This is how it will be for the BIG tourney, so I dont see the harm in doing it this weekend, but as always I am happy to hear the argument. Also Yes I want to see a NA and EU Final.... considering the next event wont be that way...

I suppose if you are happy with run-over finals, why not, archaea tends to put up show just for kicks regardless, exertus is only team that can even comprehend archaeas level at the moment.

US top cant compete EU top 4-5 at the moment :(

So if I understood you right the big ones will always have two best teams from two different regions and not the best teams from both regions? I think this makes perfect sense, you guys are legit on making good brackets. Good for amuricans though, gotta let them get into finals too, to make it fair and all, you know man, you know. :> And yes Exertus is mad, <b><!--coloro:#FF8C00--><span style="color:#FF8C00"><!--/coloro-->If you ever dodge the word filter and with an insult like that ever again you will be banned from these forums<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--></b>

And to be perfectly clear: I have nothing against amuricans and amurican ns2 scene, just not having a fair fight between the best teams in semi's is pretty ridiculous, especially top 2 both getting prizes.

I don't see any valid points here anywhere. At least double elimination was fair for everyone because everyone had a chance in the 2nd place, now you are trying to force NA vs EU finals which is in itself unfair towards us (team exertus) since we've been the number 2 team for a while (only losing to gimmicks like skulk rushes but we've improved lots from that time). Now we're forced to be at third place because either the brackets are biased or there isn't decent DE after the brackets phase. I would suggest you make the top2 teams from each bracket a new RR or DE and not a single-elimination where it is heavily biased towards where you're from and not whose the most skilled in the finals.

Well tbh, Im gonna be super positive. I think this looks awesome. Lots of games, RR, regional brackets so no ping issues until finals, 2 live streams so more matches will be covered, good timings so you wont be forced to play 2 in the morning.. wow, its all good baby. I too could live with having EU vs NA in the semis as opposed to the finals, but this is ok.

Now all we need is a news post and some tweets on to remind every1 to watch! GJ Wasabi and NS2HD, and thnx for making all this happening. At least I really appreciate it, this weekend tournies is really enjoyable.

How about the loser of the final also plays against the losers of the winning teams semi final? (that way place 2 would be kinda legit as well in the end result, tho kinda confusing and crappy metho, when you could just fix it with changing the semifinals a bit, yes there is a chance there wont be an EU vs US final then... but fairness wise you could sleep again)

PS: *jumps on scrajms positive wave* besides all the ###### we whine about all the time, wasabi and ns2hd = awesome. (we should focus a bit more on making them know that! - its kinda unbelievable what you guys organize for this community)

Im sry Zups, I just felt I wanted to say something positiv for a change, considering how much feedback wasabi/ns2hd has taken into account and given us almost everything we asked for: regional brackets, RR, several live streams, PRIZES OMG.
We <i>might</i> not be the dark horse here, but I still would have been happy even if arc would have sucked donkey balls since I just think they are doing a fantastic job. I mean, isnt all this just a thrill? And besides, cant you just give them cred for <i>once</i>?

But I will shut up now Zups, im sry for even saying something.

EDIT: When Zups made his post, it was somewhat more aggressive and hostile, until he edited it

so I have a clan that somehow got left out so we may need to do the first two rounds Friday Night as well for NA and then start earlier on Saturday...

Nadyli, This is not the format for the BIG event, and thats singular as its the Launch event. That event is two separate regions because of the finals and how/where they will be played... As to this event I want to have a match up between the NA EU top teams and frankly I think it is fair cause you are still playing a bunch of games and we did see upsets in the blind cup that changed the outcome of the semi's so its all good.

I appreciate the difficultly in logistics and that you are going to the effort to make events like this happen. The ideal behind competitive events is the fair opportunity to compete for rewards (fun, reputation, e-fame, prizes, etc). The second you hand an EU or US team a place in the final so that it is 'easier' to run the event, you turn away from the core ideal behind competitive gaming.

Fair opporunity comes first in competitive gaming, everything else second. That is the only professional way to do it. I would rather see these cups and tournaments run professionally, to a high standard, because that makes NS2 look good and will reap rewards in the long-run. All that takes is proper respect for the competitors and creating a fair environment to compete in.

How is it fair that we get to play "a bunch of games", when we could just instead be playing scrims? How is it fair that there will be a team that we don't get chance to beat and they get to the finals COMPETING FOR PRIZES just because they live in another continent? How do you think it would affect the competitive scene for example in sc2 if there would be brackets for foreigners and Koreans separately?

Nadyli, you would rather we just do two separate brackets with a final for EU and NA and thats that? we are trying to share the love with both regions and this provides that opportunity imo. But I do understand your concern and next weeks event will allow you just that, equal opportunity to have a shot at the final. And a HUGE one at that...

Looks good, great to see RR implemented. Only suggestion I would make is to change the semis to:

    1st Place Group A vs. 2nd Place Group B
    1st Place Group B vs. 2nd Place Group A

Gives incentives for winning the group (in the current format it doesn't matter if you win the group or come second) and removes the chance that the two "best" teams won't meet in the final (both teams that get to the final will have earned it).

As I said all we want is fair chance at the finals, brackets are fine even if they are a bit biased but what comes after the brackets was the fault. A good DE/RR or even just swapping places like Fana suggested is fine.

I was completely serious. I was a bit scared seeing the (seemingly) artificial fixing of the finals, but I am very impressed you took the feedback and made it fair. It would be great if there was still a US team (or two) in the finals, but this way they earnt it.
