    Max answered this in a Q&A a couple weeks ago.

    I believe he said they were medal/award ranking type icons. I haven't really heard much else about them, personally. Someone else may know more. One very much looks like a wrench and I believe I heard a comment about repairing or something. *shrug* Time will tell.

    I have all the same icons and they glow when highlighted but I can't click them or anything.

    Personally I would disregard what Josh86 said that sounds ridiculous.

    They're obviously a secret code, maybe embedded by alien hackers, and those aliens probably pressured Max to make up some phony story to throw us off the trail.

    Off the topic of the icon's purpose...but anyone else notice that their avatar or doesn't always display on game start? Just wondering if its a game thing or a graphical compatibility thing. It seems like mine only shows up after navigating the server browser a bit or after a match.

    I think these symbols have something to do with the fact, that e.g. you will have the possibility to change your armor from black armor to Special Green Armor or to activate hats!

    if i understood it right, than these icons will be filled with oder icons, that u can chose then and which are given to us for special accomplishments, like beeing the beta :)
    kinda like the pax icon some players got

    It would be terrible if that were the case, because having those icons be for achievements which players can no longer earn (PAX, Beta participation) or with no clear progression (squad 5) would mean they would sit on most people's hud unlit, forever, reminding them of how much of a loser they are. Great user encouragement!
