I need your advice on stopping them.
Hello! I'm sure most of us have played a game as a marine where things seem to be going fine, till the aliens get that early 2nd hive, and you hear someone yell out, "Fades! They got Fades!" Then you know the real battle is about to take place. With any good team and commander, this is where the game gets interesting. My problem though, is if the alien team has at least one person who isn't there to deathmatch and get kills, but rather to win the game for the aliens, you will see a Lerk with a pack of fades using the 2nd hive ability "Umbra". ( For The Record I Love Umbra, and Lerk is my fav unit for aliens) Anyway... As you all know, bullets are pretty much useless with a Lerk's Umbra dna a few Fades. So I'm looking for the best way to stop this combo attack! I've seen marines rush in the umbra to their deaths flailing their knives wildly in hopes of taking down the Lerk. (If they are lucky enough or skilled enough to kill it, the LErk usually shows up a minute or two later anyway.) Then there are those who request Grenades from the grenade launcher... but unfortunatly on most public servers, the commander will say it isn't worth the resources for a grenade launcher, or if the comm agrees, the comm places a grenade launcher, and some guy picks it up who's never seen the grenade launcher before, runs into the umbra and dies... leaving the grenade launcher at the feet of our enemies, as the Lerk chuckles. NOW ... heres my request. How would you guys suggest stopping this? ( And please, no posts about secure two hives early and you'll prevent this.) I'm looking for answers that will help solve this problem just in case this situation comes up. (Which on public servers it's coming up more and more due to people learning the game and smarter Lerks.) Any Ideas? Thanks.

1. I cost 0 resources. I am expendable.
2. There is the remote chance of me killing something.
3. (Most importantly in my eyes) I distract and confuse them. Most of the time, the fade(s) will switch to claws to avoid being hurt by their own splash damage. If I'm agile enough, they have to keep their claws out for a while to kill me. While they have their claws out, they're not bombarding the base with acid rockets. That gives my compatriots some time to regroup.
An untested tactic would be to get some mines. Charge the fades and throw mines at their feet...
There's probaby a good reason why that tactic is untested.

you have a few options here:
-stand around for a few secs before you help increase the fade's score
-charge em with a knife as stated above
-find/ask for a grenade gun and ram a high explosive down the bastage's throat
-find/ask for a HMG, go full-automatic on the lerk and there is a chance, if he is not paying attention, that you will kill it. HMGs can actually pierce through umbra, like every 5th shot or some random thing like that.
-grab a good weapon, forsake your teammates and flee the base only to loop around behind (you DO know the map better than your house, right? ) the aliens and slaughter em from where YOU have the element of surprise. This works especially well if you have a teammate backing you up, and fodder on the front end of the alien attack to keep them busy.
The third best thing is a welder - it will ruin the lerks day. A good thing to do is to get 2-3 HA guys, all using the welder on each other as they walk towards the lerk/fades, then when they get close in they weld each other and the aliens. Usually, the aliens flee, at which point the HMG's can start doing the talking.
In case you didn't know, two marines welding each other repairs damage faster than THREE fades can acid-rocket them with. Of course, they do need a healthpack every 7-10 sec or so, but it is still impressive.
Now, if you asked what you should do if they got a good gorge with them too, then the GL and welder is the only things that will work. Oh, and fight in siege coverage, or you will notice how quickly OC's/DC's can be built and how long they last in an umbra.
I tried that once.
When we were doomed in Ns_nancy and our commander gave up and left the chair. I sat in there and recycled everything and proceeded to drop a trail of medpacks and few mines leading outside our base. When all the aliens were going for the chair, I jumped out and followed the trail of medpacks and 5 quick mines as I go. However I didn't kill anything... because the mines exploded right after I placed them. For some reason that doesnt seem to do any damage to me or the aliens.
