Low FPS

Hello!

I tried playing the game today after launch and so far it looks like I'm going to have a good time with it. However I'm experiencing issues with my FPS, ranging from 40-90 depending on what's occuring on the screen. Combat or areas high in infestation drops it down to about 40, causing a lot of irritation and lack of responsiveness. I've turned texture quality to low, turned off bloom and AA and infestation to minimum.

My system specs are:

AMD Phenom II X4 @ 3.2 GHz
4 GB RAM
Radeon HD 6850
Windows 7 (64 bit)

Monitor: 1440*900 @ 75 Hz

I usually get 75 in Skyrim and a stable 60+ in Crysis 2 on fairly High settings, so I'm a bit puzzled as to why I'm having these problems.
I'm sorry, if there are already threads relating to this but I couldn't find anything via the search function, that seems relevant. I'd be very grateful if someone could help a noob like me. :)

Try turning your resolution down a little. It makes a pretty big difference. Also this game is VERY CPU intensive right now, so programs running in the background anti-virus etc can affect your game play.

Also you can type r_stats in the console and get an idea what is going on. If your "GPU wait" time is not very low like 1-10 ms then the game is choking at your video, otherwise it could be your CPU.

While playing, type r_stats in the console and look at the second line, it will say "x ms waiting on GPU". If it is constantly 0ms then your CPU is the bottleneck and there's not much you can do. If it is greater than 0 at any point then turning down your resolution as well as other graphic settings will probably give you an FPS boost.

Thanks for your replies! :) The GPU response time is 0ms according to this console command but may go up to around 10 during fps drops. I know my CPU isn't Top Spec but it runs everything else absolutely fine, so I don't wanna buy a new one really. Turning down resolution gives me black borders, so I played it in windowed mode on 1366*768 and the lowest fps I had was 57 FPS, which was a lot better but far from acceptable. Does anyone know if there are there any patches for optimization in the pipeline?

Sorry for sounding whiny, but I just feel that the issue isn't on my end alone.

Hi, I'm having the same issue so I'm posting here.

I have Windows 7, Geforce 635M, 4Gb of ram and an i5 24 50M (2.7 to 3.1 Ghz), can run Guild wars 2, Metro 2033, APB at max settings flawlesly. However I can barely play NS2, with lowest settings I run between 9-18 fps. I'm at 11 in human base, 9 in infestation. The GPU wait is 0 when I'm at 18 fps and it goes up to 50 when I really lag (that was on 1024*720)

Is there any way to restrict the graphics even more ? I wouldn't mind, I came here from Tremulous.

Saved my day, thanks to the man.

I can now play in 1024 at 60fps (while I was struggling at 30 in 800*600)
