Hey guys,

I realize mostly fans will be on these forums, but I wanted to ask if the game is worth ~25 bucks. What are some biggest issues you have with the game? I watched some reviews and it looks pretty good. Is the game "alive"? Does it have many players? Is it balanced, game-play wise and technically?

    Depends on what you like i guess. The gameplay is kinda balanced maybe... In general teamwork is what makes the difference in games. As of today there is about 3000 active players or so. Which is way more then before. The game just officially released so i would hope its alive. If you enjoy playing the mouth then you should enjoy ns2.

    Game is not worth ~$25. It's worth much more than that. ;)

    It is definitely worth the money and it has a large and dedicated player base. The only issues you may have are

    1. Performance issues. They are still continually optimizing the game but right now it is running pretty well. You may experience some frustrating framerate drops but I am confident it will get better in time.

    2. Complicated game with no real tutorial other than Youtube videos. Playing as a marine is pretty straightforward but hopping into a command chair or trying to be an alien are pretty damn tough. You will need some patience to get a hang of it. It won't take longer than a week to learn everything and maybe about a month to be skilled at it.

    I can't really think of anything else bad about it. Pretty brilliant game and I think it has a bright future ahead of it. I can almost guarantee people will be playing this a couple years from now. The developers are really hard working and committed. I'm sure they will keep supporting the game for a long time.

    If you have an amazing computer, excellent reflexes, high amounts of patience and good reserves of resistance to frustration then I'd recommend this game to you.

    If not your monitor will be in grave danger of death by punching.

    I'll add to what I already mentioned. I bought the special/delux edition without even a second thought. Worth every penny. I was also buying a copy for my little brother but now I have an extra free copy so that's that. However, he has a buddy that plays with us both in other games so I'll likely be buying his friend a copy, as well.

    Any regrets?



    None.

    It's a unique and fantastic game. As for framerate issues, I am having absolutely none while I had bad FPS during beta. Others say they have some issues so I really can't say anything on the matter.


    For balance, it's far too early to tell with the recent patch. Give it a week. I do, however, full trust UWE's ability to balance a game. NS1 was fantastic.

    I got a geforce 550 and it's running at 50fps all the time with graphics at maximum in 1920x1080, maybe a driver issues ?

    Game itself deserves to be 59.99 bucks title. I remember a guy at a game magazine wrote an column, that ns2 seems like 5 million budget game.

    However, performance is still too bad. It's way too much better than early beta stage, but not enough in my opinion. But they've improved it so lot in recent builds, so we can actually look forward to have good fps and server tick rate.

    If you hate having 30 fps with kinda good computer, i don't recommend you to buy it now, but maybe later. Game itself is just fantastic and unbelievable that just a small indie team made this.

    As far as game population goes, I think we've just gone from few dozen servers (mostly empty) in my timezone to few hundred (almost all full). Boy I love all these new players, no more waiting for games to start.

    I didn't even regret paying for it when it was in Beta and I was getting 10-25fps (get 60+ now). This is easily my favourite game since UT3 (yes I'm aware that game was buggy and awful but I loved it anyway). There are lot of populated servers, it'll be easy to find a game to join.

    The balance is pretty damn good too, albeit playing alien tends to be a bit more challenging. There's a few things that could be changed in my opinion, but it's more balanced than most games out there.

    Discrepancy comes from differences in what each tracks and how often it updates

    Steam/Steamworks = People who have NS2 running (not necessarily in a game or server)
    Game monitor = People who are in a NS2 server
    Devicenull/Nanogrid = People who are in a NS2 server, but the list is updated less frequently than game monitor/steam
