If you're using a nvidia GPU you can go into the Nvidia Control Panel and then "Manage 3D Settings" >> "Global Settings" and make sure the line that says "Preferred Refresh Rate" is set to "Highest Available". Make sure to apply the changes before closing the nvidia control panel.
Using a 120hz monitor myself I can confirm that this method keeps you always in 120hz output to your monitor when playing Natural Selection 2. I can see in my monitor's OSD what the current refresh is when the game is running. It's 120 always. If you use an ATI card maybe look for something similar in their drivers/control panel.

Turn vsync off if so. Its in your NS2 Settings.
