Cursed Upgrades!

Alrighty, well, finished a lengthy, 113 minute game a bit ago, and have a couple of gripes about some things that occurred.

1) I planted down a spur and a shell, the moment they were finished growing, I clicked the little icons above them, selecting which upgrades I wanted for them. A minute or two later, a teammate asked for me to build a Carapace shell and a Celerity spur. I said I had already done so, looked at them and realized, they had not been researched. Even though I had already clicked the button and spent the TRES for both, it hadn't researched them, so I was a little irritated. 30 TRES was spent but no upgrades were received. I checked it out a little more, and saw, the Spur, Veil, and Shells need to be at 100% maturity before you can research an upgrade, which makes it a little irritating when it pops up the little icon before you can actually research the evolution.

2) I still have some minor aggravation over the difference between Marine Weapon and Armor upgrades at the Arms lab, and the Aliens upgrade system. For one, the Arms Lab goes down, no biggy, just slap 20 TRES down and you got another one and all your Marines immediately are back up at LVL 3 Armor and Weps. Kharaa on the other hand, have to build two or three (later on when they add those evolutions back in) per structure. 3 Veils which will cost you 15 TRES alone, 2 Shells which is 30 TRES and 3 Spurs which is another 30 TRES. That's 75 TRES, though currently you only have two options with the Veil and Spur so it's only 60, then you have to go in and repay for the evolutions. For all the Veil evolitions currently it costs 20 (30 in future), 25 for all Shell upgrades, and 30 (45 in future) for all Spur upgrades. In all that's 75 (100 in future) for all the upgrades), then you add on the amounts for each Spur, Veil and Shell and it's 125 (175 in future). Now yes, in total the Marines will pay 150 (170 with cost of Arms Lab) for all their upgrades, but again, they lose their Arms Lab, pfft, they make another one, and chances are if it's late game with LVL 3 Weapons and Armor, they've made a second Arms Lab for redundancy and protection.

If a Marine sneaks into an Alien Base, they can snipe and destroy these weak evolution chambers with great ease. making the Kharaa commander spend another 15 to 30 TRES just to regain it. Per evolution. Something I think would be helpful would be this: If an evolution for the Kharaa has been researched previously within the game, and the structure containing that evolution wee to be destroyed, the Commander would need to pay full price for the chamber (Spur, Veil, or Shell) but the upgrade with be free or at an extremely reduced cost. The Marines have one single tough structure for all their Weapon and Armor upgrades, these upgrades affect their infantry, Exos, ARCs and MACs, taking it out is not easy or simple and it's usually deep in the base protected by sentries or the roaming Marine. Kharaa structures are weak vulnerable and extremely important though sometimes the upgrades just feel useless when your a skulk and take a single shotgun blast to the face and die while you had Carapce and the Marine didn't even have LVL 1 weps. I do love Camouflaged Onos though.

3) As much as I love camouflaged Onos's, Onii.... As much as I like them, I do believe that an Onos should be required to hold CTRL to get the full effect of camouflage. Just do to it's size and sheer presence in a room I do not believe it should be able to be so easily cloaked unless under the effects of a Shade.

4) Someone touched on this earlier I know, but if a room becomes infested and it doesn't have a power node in it, it should slowly drop to emergency power or just no power at all. When the infestation retreats, the power could come back to emergency power. It would help Marines know when their entering Alien territory and allow the Aliens a little more of a home field advantage on infestation as right now, the only advantage for being on infestation is for the Gorges belly slide, which is awesome by the way! BELLY SLIDE TO VICTORY! Keep Calm and Belly Slide. So making a poster of that last one.

And well that's about it, oh and heres the Keep Calm and Belly Slide image I just made! <img src="http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/1595/keepcalmgorge.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
About 15 minutes of boredom and creativity combined into that.

If someone could get me a good image of a Gorge belly sliding I could make it even better!

Got a smaller version of that that could maybe go as a signature?

My only advice is to convince your comm he isnt locked in his chair...
By the time you get upgrades in your hive it means your commander has upgrades...

An upgraded skulk (celerity, leap and carapace) can murderize a marine who isnt expecting them as he is happily axing your upgrades
makes it even easier that you know exactly where is going to be... Hell by late game as aliens when I command I normally drop myself a fade egg so I can effectively defend my upgrades/help in hive attacks/defend vs rambos.

What kind of dimensions are you looking for?

I think it would still be nice to see it be a little easier for Aliens to re acquire evolutions that had been taken out.

The problem is it doesnt warn you and anyone who isnt foolish or out of bullets will shoot the damn things and they die in like 5 seconds. Luckily kharaa comm doesnt have much else to do than watch for ninja rines.

Unless something has changed since the beta, this isn't true at all. Shades, Crags and Shifts need maturity to research their upgrades, but not Veils, Shells, or Spurs. Are you sure you didn't just drop the wrong building?

Pretty sure it's Oni... whatever it is, it's in the tooltip for one of the alien comm buttons, probably Stomp.

I can't speak for other Oni, but I crouch with Ctrl when I have Camo anyway. I think it stops the camera shake from footsteps. (What's the point in cloaking if they still know you're coming?) Granted, cloaked walking might do that anyway, I have no idea.

Leave a drifter in the hive room or where ever the upgrades are (in fact, put them at every major intersection). You should be checking the map out constantly anyway, so you can see them arriving in the room. Also, hide them in places that are hard to get to or have reduced line of sight, go gorge, and clog them up with hydras.

There are 3 upgrades for spurs and veils? I thought there's only 2 for each? Celerity + Andreline and Silence + Camo? I know the wiki mentions 2 other upgrades but I don't see it in my game yet, and you just posted this today...

They temporarily removed Hypermutation and Feign Death while working out some glitches on them that were being abused.

Assuming the upgrades are at the hive the commander is at.
