Rookies, new netcode, etc...
Need to vent. Too many new players... that think this game is anything they've played before.
So, am I the only one, or with this new netcode, something weird is going on? Before, I had terrible FPS (as far as I understand, this was due to my 100ish ping, and one of the last beta builds aimed to solve that issue)... anyway I was saying that I had terrible FPS, but when I shot something, bullets always registered. And no weird stuff happened; weird as in, you are stalking a lone marine (LONE), you bit him twice, then suddenly you die... But that marine is still facing forwards, and turns backwards shooting after you die. Or, a skulk is attacking you, and biting you with its ass. Or, you are unloading a clip on a skulk (well, if not all, you are sure that enough bullets "should" hit), but then it takes only 2-4 bullet worth of damage... This feels like the source engine with interpolation stuff - models (also model facing) and hitboxes (also actual facing) not aligned onto each other kinda.
I mean, even with low FPS, barely playable, I was doing really well. After that patch, these are the stuff that is happening...
And now, Rookies. First of all, what is a ROOKIE? Rookie in game I mean. They are painted in green and all that ######, IMANEWGUY sorta thing, allright. But why do I still encounter them in servers that are not tagged as "Rookie Friendly"? Wasn't the idea behind "Rookie Friendly" servers, that tag I mean, to separate rookies from "veterans"? They play on rookie friendly servers till they learn a bit about the game, no? If not what is the point of it? And can you please force-fed some VITAL information to the rookies?

2. Rookies-
You have to understand this game to understand what you're experiencing. NS1 came out years ago, and NS2 has been in development for some time now. Even though the game has gone through a long alpha / beta, the player base has EXPLODED since it went up on steam. Heck, it was the number 1 on its release day and is still top 5. Even with such a loyal player base, there is bound to be servers overflowing with new people. So far, I've ran into tons of great new players who are hungry for advice and are willing to listen to experienced players.
If you're commander, give your team advise - "Base is under attack, please phase through" "Press mouse-2 to leap!" "Don't forget your upgrades -- default is B" etc etc. Also, I'd much rather help a player learn to command than command every single game. Help them understand the various trees one can go down, and help weigh the benefits of each. You can't expect players to do research before playing a game, as most are just casual players. The worst thing a player can do is ###### talk / talk down on a new player, because what would bring them back if every game they joined they were berated with "LEARN TO PLAY NOOB."
Lastly, try not to 75-0 them. If your team is dominating, switch if you can! I've found it to be much more rewarding to switch and help them figure out what they are doing wrong.
If you want them to stop doing retarded stuff, get a mic and politely tell them what to do. Yes, it's irritating, but some will learn faster.
I can't talk about the netcode issues you've been having. It's better for me now than it was a few patches ago
And so far not every game with a new commander was painful, but they should at least know the difference between upgrades and alien abilities. A few are only researching either one. But most of them are eager to learn. And for the rest...did they remove the eject option? Couldn't find the binding in the options.
Oh and what about the tutorial videos? I tried to watch some, but selecting them in the menu seems to do nothing. That could be a reason why new players are kinda clueless. We don't have tutorial single player missions. Remember Battlezone? That was a complex fps/rts game as well, but the tutorial missions made you start right on with the right amount of knowledge. And the explore mode lets you only experience summit so far :/ There is a lot to be done in this regard.
Yesterday i was bilebombing the MS untill a rine was about to spawn. Then I left the room just to see myself teleported back to the MS with an angry rine shooting at me :P I think strange things can happen, but I would blame the server or my connection.

That sounds like a large ping jitter or packet-loss to me. I use to suffer from it a lot. It's so irritating! Especially when idiots start to insult you over it, as if being a "lagger" makes it easier for you some how.
What happens alot to me lately is, when I fight a skulk as a marine with 100% health and armour, we dance around each other for a few split seconds, I shoot the ground, he bites the air, and then suddenly I get one damage marker and am dead straight away. Like instantly form 100% to dead. I hate it and it happens regularly.
The problem you describe of animation lag has been a persistent 'issue' throughout the life of the beta. It is the same now as it always was. There's probably some technical limitation thats the reason why it is the way it is. It might be due to interp (how far back in time your client goes in order to have time to render stuff), i dont know, im not a technical person.
Any other issues of "one bulet/bite and i die" or "damage coming all at once", this is 100% due to a network hiccup or just bad situational awareness of your own self of some sort.

What is this, communist Russia? If rookies want to play on a server that isn't rookie friendly, who are you to tell them they can't?
And a tip for rookies: Don't try to command until you've got a grip on the game (unless no one else is getting in). It's very difficult to learn the game and learn how to command at the same time. A good way to learn some of the basics of command are to make your own game and mess around (cheats 1; tres; pres; autobuild in console will help a lot!) If you hop in and don't perform adequately you're wasting a lot of other people's time. The command role is meant for someone who's got a grip on the basics (and even some advanced tactics) of the ground game. Creating your own game helps to alleviate learning the tech tree. And if you're still new to commanding, ask for help! People want you to do well so that they can win.
