9 out of 10<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> so, i was playing ns2 last night, and took a page out of Hugh's book. I browsed twitch for people streaming ns2, and started watching. i talked in chat, answering the player's questions about the game. when i could, i sneaked a peak at the server when they flashed the player list, and jumped on the server they were playing. so apparently, one of the guys i helped in chat and in-game was the reviewer from this article. they (him and his brother) were very appreciative that i was helping them so much, even just to understand all the little details in the game that arent so obvious, like flamers eliminating lerk gas.
so that tweet "FPSGuru: ""One of the biggest things Natural Selection 2 has going for it right now is the community""? yeah, i helped inspire that comment

Some of the old NS1 veterans reviews of NS 2 sound more like bitterness that UWE didnt just update NS1 to use source and create essentually NS:S to go with CS:S and DoD:S.
I have to ask though how would the old DM / TDM players react to a radical mod like NS1 ? I bet there was plenty of calls to just make Marines vs Space Pirates and ditch this wierd alien rubbish and RTS stuff... additionally NS1 was a dog at release... it ran badly and played worse if I recall correctly, about 1.4 (JP heaven) to about 2.0 it was at its best (unfortunately I left the scene shortly after Combat ).
If you are after a game that is optimal for pro player / twitch FPS / skill based movement catering.... I hear Shootmania offers all of that for pro's. NS 2 has a different set of 'skills' to answer... a different way to prove your skill over other teams.
... or is Archea just insanely lucky every single tournament ? Fana ... do you play with skill that beats your opponents ... or are you merely lucky everytime ?

yes, yes yes, really no, no and no... but seriously NO.
Why make a sequel to a game and dismiss EVERYTHING that made the game so great in the first place? Did charlie even make NS1? i seriously question that now. watching ns2 development is like watching charlie slowly sell out every build, further moving away from what NS1 was in the first place.
just look at the common threads around, even newcomers are saying the same thing every other person with common sense told charlie over the years, and many of these people never even played NS1, shocking I would think.
But this is what charlie did with NS2: making working ideas to broken ideas, making simple things into complicated things, fun things became boring things and ignoring fundamental ideas from NS1. Point is NS1 should of been more of ground work for NS2 but it was rather created like NS1 never existed.
i've said this before, the game should of been released in two modes, classic mode and combat mode not like this. He completely shoved everything into one mode, the gameplay suffers big time aside from all the wanky ideas sounded great on paper simply do not work in-game.
I want to also thank Charlie Cleveland for commenting on the video. It's rare to have people involved with the games I review to actually speak up on YouTube!

Reading posts like this is like peeking into an alternate universe that noone cares about. I'm sorry you guys feel this way, but you have to recognize that very few of us agree with you, and that proportion is increasingly unfavorable to you with the influx of new players. I played NS1 for years and I genuinely believe that NS2 is shaping up to be the better game. You either need to adapt or find a new hobby, because whining on the forums about your misremembered nostalgia for NS1 is getting old. That's all.

One of the best games ever made only earns you an 8/10 on a big site, 9 and up is only for the big advertising dollars.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The game has its problems. It's a great game - IGN recognizes that - but it still needs to be polished, and I feel that's where IGN felt they had to dock some points.
Vitdom, remember in CS when you'd strafe-move, stop for 134ms to shoot, then continue move-strafing?
But yeah I agree, conservation of momentum would move the round counter clockwise at the (angular or tangent ?) of the blue's velocity.
I use Gorge to run backwards and sidways around convex corners spitting, physics plus the slow projectile speed mean I can hit Marines without seeing them as they chase me.
i played NS1 alot, and i preordered NS2 from the start and im having so much fun with the game, i have no complaints about it at all, so thanks Unknown Worlds for making it :)

I think he was trying to say that NS2 community is helpful ....but it seems unnatural , since like you said most gaming communities are full of ######. Being helpful to newbies in a multiplayer game is unnatural.
It isn't a mystery that NS2 didn't pay for the IGN review. It also isn't a mystery that games that pay for advertising get better scores on IGN. (GTA IV and cut scene simulator... I mean MGS4 got 10/10, when both games are generally regarded as "meh" by the public.) The majority of gamers that pay attention know to take IGN reviews with a grain of salt. Really, this is true of most reviews in general. Nobody should be able to put a number on something as subjective as enjoying a game. The most they should be able to do is "Competently executed," "Mediocre," or "Incompetently Executed." All sorts of people enjoy all sorts of games, even the ones that get a 5/10 on IGN and a generally bad score on Metacritic.
Basically, I'm saying this game is great, and people know that regardless of what arbitrary numerical value anyone places on it.
Honestly though, 7.5-8.5 was what I was expecting from the major review sites, with maybe some much lowers scores from reviewers that don't get it. A MP-only PC-only FPS/RTS hybrid without the console FPS shooter mechanics seemed like it was going to alienate most reviewers. I was kinda surprised with the initial positive reviews. The IGN one is more like what I expected.
8/10 is a good review from a mainstream site. The game is relatively niche and still has some polish issues, I would be very surprised if it scored a 9 with a site like IGN.
