<div class="IPBDescription">instead of ordinary arms lab uppgrade</div>so this is an idea i have about maybe instead of just getting a raw damage upgrade from arms lab you get different weapon parts that you can use to make your gun more to you liking.
how it should work is that you pretty much have 3 slots for your weapon of choice and each gets unlocked when you upgrade weapons at the arms lab.
next you pick one of the slots and there you pick a weapon part that has both ups and downs, for example a lmg you maybe have one part that increases accuracy at the cost of fire rate whilst there is another that does the opposite. Or maybe that each part has two ups and two downs like example the lmg again one part increases raw damage and mag size but brings down fire rate and accuracy. this would have to be balanced so the parts can't get op but so you can still max out some things but by doing that you may just as well devastate others. Example someone uses the +damage and mag size -fire rate and accuracy upgrade making his/her lmg a near unending storm of high damage bullets however his/her accuracy and fire rate would make pretty much one in ten bullets actually hit a smaller alien at medium range thereby balancing it for the small aliens. however the same guy/gall may chose to remake the gun then because of its inability to hit and instead uses one that shoots fast and is accurate but packs smaller mags and is in general weaker, making it better against smaller aliens since if an ordinary rifle would perhaps hit with half the bullets this ones increased accuracy and fire rate would make it hit with like 8 out of 10.
Maybe it could change the guns appearance to depending on what parts you pick thereby giving people the hmg back without adding a new gun you just modify the existing lmg.
The parts you picked should be the default choice if you die so you only need to go up to the arms lab to get you modified gun back.
modifying your gun should be free since the commander have already spent res on the weapons upgrades for you so you should not have to buy your parts again to have a useful gun.
this is only an idea, perhaps its stupid or maybe it would need some work perhaps it should be a mod instead but still could be fun and ofc everything would have to be balanced.

I would offer one suggestion though, just for balance sake: You should only be able to pick your upgrades once per life, since aliens can only pick their evolutions once per life.

thanks for the feedback and you are correct about that however i think that the evolution upgrades may make a bit more sense to be unable to not change whilst gun well its a gun but i do understand that it would be more fair but then again the aliens upgrades doesn't directly affect their damage unlike a marines gun but then again they would have to run back to the weapons lab and stand vulnerable whilst they change their parts but then again we will se how it works if someone makes a mod of it or it's implemented.
oh and btw anyone who reads this can feel free to make this into a mod if they want to however i want to be informed when its done since i want to try it out to :)
I'm working on a mod at the moment where I'm pretty much just throwing every idea I can think of into it, maybe I'll give it a go at some point down the road.
