Artist looking to work on total conversion. Any big ones yet?
Hey all, I'm a 3d artist who's been sort of drawn like a moth to this beautiful rendering engine and all of the modding accessibility that's built into it.
Are there any schemes for really radical total conversions yet? French foreign legion vs. Mummies? Spiders vs. Ants? Democrats vs. Republicans? Gendarmes vs. unwashed college students? Or is it still too early for the massive mods to get rolling? I'd love to contribute to one of these in my spare time.
Here's my character art portfolio: <a href="http://alexandercooney.com/" target="_blank">http://alexandercooney.com/</a>
But can animate and make modular environment assets as well.
Cheers

We currently have two programmers, an audio tech, a mapper(possibly a second soon), and myself, I handle story, mechanics, gameplay, features, and other logistics. I checked your site out and your models look great. We'd be really pleased to have your talent on the team as we work to create something really different and exciting. We've got plenty of videos, as well as a fan made trailer I can link you to if you'd like to see it. Also, the french foreign legion vs mummies sounds hilariously promising.
Please for the love of all that is awesome on this planet make Gendarmes vs unwashed college students. Hilarity will ensue.
Happy to be here, Jibrail! This is such a ridiculously great game, and one look at that bare, eager lua folder told me that there were going to be a lot of mods needing art ASAP.

It really is a great game and the modding scene is already big and with alot of upcoming improvments to the tools I imagine that it will explode, feel free to check out Combat mod you will need to cross off the filter in the server browser to see those servers running it and all other modded servers.
I like the idea of metal weapons being merged with arms as if the entity is a slave without control. And with that also making them more connected to the com. Their base (as in com/hive/<a href="http://www.nextdimension.org/other/doom3/arachnotron.jpg" target="_blank">brain creature</a> ;) and basic structures) could also be somewhat movable, connected to tech points through a "leash". All structures plug directly into a hub that connects/replaces with the wall mounted energy points. <a href="http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/4/34767-4880-38832-1-virus_super.jpg" target="_blank">Creature on a cable "leash"</a>. Could work for structures, but not players. Tons of wires everywhere instead of infestation.
Another thing that was cool in Battlefield L.A was the "mule" creature that the aliens need to operate forward. It's almost like an arc. Close to impossible to find a good <a href="http://www.fyjs.cn/bbs/attachments/Mon_1104/27_134201_622e19471cd1b0d.jpg" target="_blank">image</a>. Anyways it needs to be cuter and less gory to fit with NS.
... and then of course larger maps playable 2 teams vs 2 teams :) The balancing challenge would be a total nightmare.
I abandoned the idea (at least temporarily) because of the balancing issues involved.
We have PG, a Q3/UT/TS inspired mod which needs complete character and world design, and as already mentioned, there is Sanity too...
PG will probably be fairly simple, as it is only 1 character and some environment, Sanity will be the more challenging and interesting path.

I though a bit about a third race. I think the teams should work like that:
Marines: fragile, strong ranged, average cost and respawn, low mobility.
Aliens: fragile, strong melee, low cost and fast respawn, high mobility.
Third race: Resistant, Average melee, average range, higher cost and lower respawn, average mobility.
The alien vs third race matchup would be more about pure melee combat, the 3rd race would be able to deal some damage at range but not really enough to kill them in 1 second like marine do. The rest of the combat would be pure melee. One should look at other games (e.g. dark souls) to see how melee gameplay is done right.
The marine vs third race would be a bit similar, mix of melee and range. The marine would need to shoot at them longer than aliens.
The economy and politics should also be different in each race, the marines would be pure t-res (ns1 like), the alien pure p-res and the 3rd race something completely different (shared pool? maybe not even use res points on the map but a different kind of resources). The marines would have strong centralized power (the comm), aliens have decentralized anarchist-ants like organization. The 3rd race something different.
