GOOD examples of skulk gameplay

Becuase I really, really, suck at it.
Can someone please show me some GOOD skulk gameplay (first person) from someone who is really good at it vs other players who are not scrubs who die easily.

I need it all. Movement, advanced tactics, and especially combat. I can typically get a decent jump on marines but during the actual fight I am doing something wrong. I also feel like I am missing something movement wise.

For example, is this still possible in this build of the game?

Again, please only good players vs good players. I can beat up on lost noobs just as easy as the next guy.

Wall jumping has been nerfed from those ridiculous levels but it still works more or less the same.
The only tips I have for new skulks is:
-Do not hold down the bite button and flail around wildly, it will get you killed.
-Time and sync your bites to when you touch the marines.
-Keep the damage numbers on so you can see if you did a full bite(75) or glancing bites 50 and 25(for full bites you need to hit them mostly with the dead center of your screen).
-In the early game, when marines still have Armor 0, one parasite+2 fill bites will kill a marine.

It seems he wants to know a little more advanced tips besides what you tell brand new people.

I wouldn't say I am a pro skulk whatsoever... but I like to try to disorient a marine by running circles, up walls, etc... being as unpredictable as possible all the while only biting when he is not looking at me. This works well against a single marine, not multiples. Walk walking is never a bad idea. You will get better with time. Put in the hours and you get better.

If you want to go for a kill, you have to kill within 1-2 sec. It takes about 1-2 secs for a marine to get his bearings and gun you down. Often its better to flee and duck into a vent or behind some obstacles. Whats more annoying for marines, you getting another bite in and then dying or you sticking around in some vent? They know you're around so they won't be as efficient in building stuff and it will prevent them to go to other places that require their presence desperately. In other words, you're wasting their time while looking for you/be on their guard without you having to do anything. Another thing I do is if I lose focus in combat, I'd either backoff a bit, use the terrain to block any incoming bullets and then go for another attack if the marine is alone, or I just flee to fight another day.

    1. never keep your m1 button held all the time, time your bites and take time biting so you get perfect hits, this also helps you to get hold of the situation, everytime you spam bites you lose track where you are and situation is confusing, just take 1 bite, run, try to track marine and bite again.

    2. use walls if possible, jump all around the place never go straight line, be unpredictible, and once you hear they are reloading, this is your time to attack, if there is other skulk with you, just try avoid their fire if they shoot you, and once you hear your friend is attacking, it's time for you to go attack too.

    3. use walljumps, you go faster with walljumps, in combat use wall jumps too and jump from wall to wall etc.

    4. if you see there is 3+ marines, you know you can't win them alone, try asking help, so use parasit, wait around corners where they haven't seen you, try to get that first bite.

    5. use walk, don't always run, if you see marine is building powernode you can sneak behind him quite easily and get 2 perfect hits for free, also walk if you don't want to get spotted, if you see 3-4 marines building rt, just spy them, don't reveal your position and once they leave rt alone just destroy the rt.

    6. if it's base, focus powernode, if it's RT just destroy RT and ignore powernode.

hope these tips helps you with better skulking, once you get leap remember to save energy to in combat, you can easily avoid damage with well used leaps and it also helps to engage if you need to charge enemies fast.

and remember, this is teamgame, so 1 pro skulk alone can't do much alone, try to move in group of skulks and attack together, one who goes into the fight first just basicly distracts marines and jumps all around the base and behind them, so rest of the skulks can attack them very easily.

I'd also like to add that a gorge (especially with celerity so he can keep up)) mixed in with a pack of skulks can double the combat durability of skulks. In the worst case scenario, the marines gun down the gorge, but the skulks will be all over the marines. Gorges and their role mid-combat are underestimated imho. A gorge with carapace gets another 75 armor, thats huge ! He's not as beefy as an onos, but hes relative cheap so imho its worth it. Be sure to belly slide somewhere behind when you experience the marines focus firing on you and let the skulks do the rest. :)

wiry's stream is pretty damn impressive skill-wise.

after watching dozens of demos of high tier tf2 players i thought i knew what to expect from high tier ns2 players... but i guess i was totally wrong there. i totally understand the decision-making, but the aim and movement is like WTF :p

It's why NS1 players made some of the best TF2 players :D

Utilize obstacles when approaching a rine, try and get him to need to reload before your final approach, obstacles include his team mate, they cant shoot through each other, so by attacking from the outside in, you can utilize one rine as a shield, Ideally by the time you kill that rine and lose him as a shield the remaining marine needs to reload as he emplied his clip into his buddy not you.

At 2:45 of the advanced skulk tutorial you can see pretty much exactly how it is done. I would say you want to disengage and run up walls against multiple marines more then against a single marine. Against a single marine its my opinion that you want to stick close to him typically.

There's a perfectly good example of good skulk gameplay available in the game under training. Watch more HOW he plays and less what he's talking about. Observe what he does. It's pretty simple, really, and is how all alien lifeforms (save for the onos) work. You ambush, you bite, you get OUT of site, then you get in and bite again and get OUT OF SITE again. Over and over until you kill him. Hit and run. Nothing to it.

    1. Forget about walljumping, it's not necessary and there are far more important skills to master as a skulk. Walls and ceilings are good for moving unpredictably to shake their aim though.

    2. Like Onii-chan said, don't rush your bites, aim carefully and bite when you know you'll hit.

    3. Don't pick fights you're not confident you'll win, at least not without compelling reason(i.e. defending an objective or teammate). Your best tool for a reliable kill is distractions. Always take note of where the marine's attention is focused - if he's focused elsewhere(shooting a teammate, building a structure), that's the time to kill him. If he's focused on you, that's the time to hide or dodge around and let your teammate(s) finish him off. Don't pick a fight if he's already focused on you or looking in your direction.

    4. Don't forget to consider his teammates, you want to pick marines who aren't being covered, i.e. are in the back of the formation. Then when you kill that guy, check how alert his teammates are, and if they've noticed you run away and regroup.

Just in general, use your head, remember how easy it is for marines to kill a skulk in a fair 1v1 fight, and pick fights that are to your advantage. If you don't have a good opportunity to attack yet, be patient wait until you do.

As an example of a smart skulk engagement, if my teammate is already set up for an ambush I'll often play the distraction and parasite a marine that I see about to walk through the doorway. Then I hide around the corner and wait for the other skulk to ambush. The moment he does, I deduce that the marine will switch focus to him, and that's when I jump back out to help. Timing is everything.
