<div class="IPBDescription">A funny situations I ran into tonight.</div>I'll keep this brief.
Endgame. I'm an alien. Marines are turtling. We have tons of res. The enemy doesn't. People are slowly going onos and rushing the power nodes, but on the other end of the room are three sentries pointing at the node. The enemy has lvl3 weapons and the immense machinegun fire is just utterly destroying the onos before they can do anything about the power.
Our attack isn't too terribly disorganized (and we had a few new players with us), but everyone is shouting over and over "rush the power node." I keep saying "Please, take down that sentry battery first" but no one listens to me. Again and again, the turrets and marines kill and drive out our onos just long enough to repair the power node and CC to save the game. I've already bile bombed the robot factory, so all we need is to stop that battery so our onos won't die on the power node from the sentries. Finally, I get enough res and go onos and destroy it myself. Almost immediately after that, our team manages to take the power and we break the turtle and win.
I always say that rushing and dying on the power node or CC is stupid against an organized defense with how much damage marines can deal. Only a mass Onos rush or a well planned siege can break marine turtles. If I'm not part of an Onos rush trying to drop the power node or CC than I usually go gorge during sieges and bile bomb things like armories and arms labs to reduce their ability to fight. I always say that targeting these structures first will drastically reduce the marine's ability to fight back when pinned. After this, I believe that more firmly now. I know this drags out the fight a bit, but when the marines are pinned and their resources are starting to choke out, then destroying armories will prevent them from getting ammo for recycled guns, and attacking the arms lab will deny them armor and damage upgrades.
Was I wrong in trying to urge my team to attack support structures instead of key ones, or was I right?

That being said, there should be lesser Aliens or an extra onos romping around first to distract the marines. They'll want to focus on the onos, so naturally they're wide open for other aliens to kill them.
Attrition' em marines to death.
Even in taking secondary bases, with an OBS, PG and CC there, I will rather kill OBS, then PG, then CC, leaving power node for last.
THis is because even if I am driven away, something would have died, and cost marines res to replace. Plus camping a phase gate allows me to kill phasing marines rather than getting shot across half the room.
2 hitting people as an onos instead of 3, is amazing difference.
3 bites only for skulks, only 2 swings for fades to take people out...
I don't really understand rushing that powernode first.
It's not the greatest idea. First, take out their armslab, it gives them HUGE buff to holding down 1 base.
After it's down, they go down REAAAAALLY fast.
I have yet to see rines with w0a0 survive longer than 30 seconds on last base, while turtling.
They poke onoses with their silly weapons and they die to anything that touches them...
Bring not only Oni, but also Lerks and Gorges.
