Various websites are erroneously reporting that Natural Selection 2 sold 144,000 copies in it's first week of release.
- Beef Jack: <a href="http://beefjack.com/news/natural-selection-2-sells-144000-copies-in-first-week-on-sale/" target="_blank">Natural Selection 2 sells 144,000 copies in first week on sale</a>

Apparently they saw <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/images/ns2/PostLaunchStatsRelease.jpg" target="_blank">this infographic</a> but failed to read the line below 144,000 saying "people who <b>own</b> NS2 (pre-orders + gifts + launch sales)".
At least 45,000 copies were pre-ordered before the game even appeared on the Steam store (on September 4th) and <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/news/2012/9/natural_selection_2_pre_orders_on_steam" target="_blank">UWE gave away the same amount of copies for free.</a>

It's their fault for not doing their due diligence as a news source.
It's also positive publicity since UWE had nothing to do with their erroneous misinterpretation.
News could be worse though ;)
Also notice that some sites are reporting $1 Million in sales while another claims $2.5 Million.
+ One site calls NS2 a "Standalone Half-Life Mod"
yeah they obviously pulled the number from that image, but i reckon the pre-orders should fall into the first week sales category anyway.
144000 - 85000 (the # of preorders and gifts approximately) = 59000 * 25 = 1.475 million doll hairs.
The sites are saying "in first week" whereas NS2 has been pre-ordered since 2009.

I'm pretty sure they said they had 40,000+ before steam, double that for free keys, and 20,000 on steam before release. So around 40,000 sold for the first week. Around a million, before valve's cut.
"We can start a fire, toast some marshmallows, and chant slogans."
That's just so awesome.

Pretty sure pre-orders count towards day one/week one sales for every other game release...
Ok, but yer not getting it.
There was 45,000 pre-orders before Steam.
That's 90,000 copies, half of which were free. So still, 45,000 copies sold.
So...if 144,000 copies were sold...
Lets see...
Means roughly 99,000 copies were sold, really, or around that.
I should have made that infographic clearer!
UWE need more sales though, 1 million is great but when you consider salaries, equipment, rent, etc... It is not a lot.
Same payment --> same work ethics :)
Seriously: <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/natural-selection-2/user-reviews" target="_blank">http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/natural-...-2/user-reviews</a>
NS2 MetaCritic score = <!--coloro:#00FF00--><span style="color:#00FF00"><!--/coloro--><b>9.2</b><!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->. Faith in humanity restored.
Although that's the user score, the metacritic score is still dragged down by the review Gamespot has pulled.
The general response to NS2 does appear positive, which is as much as you could realistically expect.
That's just so awesome.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
lol best part.
Do you mean pulled-pulled?

Hilarity ensues :)
I'm not surprised. It must've been a long time since they actually had to review a game instead of the usual slapping of the usual 10 on the usual suspects for the usual fee.
Your commercial department should have tons of it out on youtubes most watched reviewers and so on.
I heared the sales sky rocketed when Totalbiscuit got into it but theres plenty more reviews like him and imo alot better.
Keep up the good work tho! i love the game!
