<div class="IPBDescription">Where to place ARC to kill hives</div>Hello everyone,

I thought I'd share my findings on where to place ARCs to take down hive at your ease. Location in blue are the siege points. You generally would want to bring 3 or 4 ARCs, scan for 3, 4 times and watch the hive scream.

<b>ns2_docking</b>
If you want to use ARC to take down hives, this is the map for you. Once you take Court Yard and Stability Monitoring, you can basically siege ALL THE HIVES. I actually think UWE should really fix the siege points for this map because its sooo easy to take down Locker and Cafeteria.

<b>ns2_mineshaft</b>
Though there is only one siege point, I think ARC is still valid to use for this map. Central Drilling has 2 resource nodes and is a very important location resouce wise, and also is a really safe spot to siege Ore Deposit due to the map design.
<img src="http://i45.tinypic.com/2ajx5w9.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<b>ns2_refinery</b>
Another good map to use ARC. Once you get Pipeline, you'll want to just keep on pushing each hive clockwise starting from Containment. Both Containment and Tram will be easy to take down with the power of the ARC.
<img src="http://i47.tinypic.com/33jtt8i.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<b>ns2_tram</b>
This map is a hard one. Though there are siege points for almost all the maps, it's not always usefull except the one in North Tunnel. Using ARC or not really would fall into where the start locations are for each team, and where the Alien chooses to take the 2nd hive.
<img src="http://i48.tinypic.com/ab1h77.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<b>ns2_veil</b>
Not really a good map to use ARC. There are some valid siege points but the locations really isn't designed to give you much good cover. I'd choose other options to take down the hive. If you wan't to, you can take down Nanogrid from both sides though.
<img src="http://i50.tinypic.com/2lizpd0.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<b>ns2_summit</b>
No siege point for hive. You will have to rely on other things to take down the hive for this map.

    Great post. Hopefully we see more of these siege strategies come into use, instead of the conventional mass exos and charge the hive strat which is common in pub play.

    Is anybody else disappointed with the number of "true" siege spots. As in sieging a hive out literally from another room away, rather than stopping 5 meters outside the direct entrance into the hive room, instead of walking a few steps and shooting it from direct line of sight?

    I suppose since ARCs are mobile, it could be imbalanced to have sieging as it was in NS1. It just seems like a viable and exciting method of taking down hives as been watered down a lot.

    I'm fairly certain that on Docking, you can hit Locker Rooms from The Thirsty Onos power node.

    Another really good siege spot on departures is the hallway east of locker rooms. Not very many teams expect it either.

    Makes me wonder if fast ARCs would be a good counter to 6minute onos...

    Confirmed. I just quickly tested it out and yes you actually can siege the hive from under the power node of Bar.

    It's a very small spot though. Only like 1 maybe 2 ARCs can actually shoot from it

    Yeah I think ARCs really need a range boost...

    I miss the old "slow & steady" siege gameplay from the <b>next room</b>. Squishing up into the corner of a corridor bend is not enjoyable for me. :(

    In my opinion, ARCs should be the low-risk/low-reward option. I believe sieging should be relatively cheap, but relatively time-consuming way to take down a hive. The opportunity cost for running a siege would be having your marines committed to that area of the map much longer, leaving other fronts undefended for longer.

    ARCs are sort of OP already, in some situations, such as tram warehouse and that courtyard locker spot (which should really disappear).

    Get ARCs + pg in tram early game if aliens started in warehouse and it's over.

    I think the problem is that ARC and Grenade Launcher currently fit in the same role. In NS1, Gorges could build multiple Defence/Offence chambers to wall of certain parts of the maps. Grenade Launchers were useless to these as the rate of heal was above the damage it does, and siege cannons were the only way to take them out.

    In NS2, Crags are expensive and can be taken out by Grenades Launchers easily. Its far more better to drop an Onos egg than to drop an Crag as an Alien commander so you don't see much situations where you'd actually need an ARC other than taking down hives from OP locations.

    The moment ARCs became mobile instead of turrets, they lost their interesting strategic use. Now they are just commander spammables. You build a few, sneak them in and deploy them to nuke all the structures bar the hive before aliens can stop you. Heaven forbid you defend them, you can kill hives.

    Would rather thay had more range, and limitations in numbers and deployment time. Aliens trying to take a room full of seige turrets was far more entertaining than ARCs are.

    I'm really disappointed, those were the best fights in the game more often then not. Increase ARC range~!
