Will I be able to run it?

Hey, I've been thinking about buying NS2, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to run it smoothly (on max). My monitor only supports up to 1280x1024 so it should be able to run on my "max" a lot easier than on 1920x1080.
Specs:
AMD Phenom II 945 (3.0 GHZ quad)
8 GB RAM (800 MHZ DDR2)
AMD Radeon HD 6770

What? I haven't ever seen my FPS under 60 and I have an Nvidia GTX 470. (Which is exactly the same as a 560Ti except for power consumption, heat and noise) Everything at max except atmospherics off... Maybe it's a radeon issue. (which is often the case with new games)
Or maybe it's more CPU intensive than GPU intensive, my Intel i5-3570K @ 4.8 GhZ might be the deciding factor.
Can we get a max/dash heads up on how important the levels of cpu cache are to the equation?
(PS: I currently play @ 1080 vertical resolution, low texs and all options off except anisitropic and bloom, again max/dash, those 2 effects are still GPU bound yes? LUA doesnt do much other than signal a need for them?)
OP: I get 43-54 FPS stationary in ReadyRoom alone, I'd guess 10fps max late game in a full room, which is plenty for myself, not so for alot of people.
Be interesting to see what an 1GHz difference makes.
I have noticed in alien-vision that each mesh has many vertices, and don't look very game optimised. To me that is a good thing, but... Progress and all that.
That is something funky with the alien shader and the actual vertexes not being completely on grid that cause those "vertex heavy" lines, the actual triangles on the mesh is not affected by that :)
2.6 ghz is barely enough to play mid-game. As of now, people might look at this and say,"Well, I've got 2.5 ghz, so I should be fine!" Not good. 2.6ghz is on the knife's edge of being okay on maybe a 12-16 player server.
I think it should be changed to say, "Dual Core 3.0 ghz" for the minimum. Max should be "Quad Core 4.0 ghz," or something along those lines.
It's only when alot of the good NS1 players coming out of the woodwork recently with their serious gaming rigs all join Marines that fps seems to actually have any effect on the game outcome.
Keep in mind though that this was also earlier in beta when I had this configuration, and there have been plenty of performance improvements since.
So, short answer, yes! This will run decently on your system. Hope to see you around!
For a quick comparison:
- on my "old" Phenom X4 @ 4 GHz i got between 20 and 60 FPS. Whenever i entered areas with a lot of infestation or many action going on, my FPS dropped below 30, wich made me having hard times hitting well with a shotgun or in melee combat as a skulk. So my own performance was nerfed by my FPS... no fun :(
- on my new i5 3570K @ 4,2 GHz i get between 40 and 110 FPS. So even in heavy situations my FPS stays far above 30 and i got a decent gameplay now with nice graphics on 1920*1080. Since i really love NS it was worth the about € 450,- (i5 3570K + MSI Z77 MPower Board + 8GB 1833 MHz RAM) upgrade for me!
My GFX is an 7950, so its pretty recent. But i think you should do just fine with yours as well on mid detail levels.
the graphics look really good though... there's something about it which makes it more aesthetically pleasing than crysis 2 or battlefield 3.
those 'realistic'-style games always end up looking like half-life 2 with better lighting, where NS2 is more stylized... half-life 2 isn't a bad thing, but i appreciate different styles as what they are... a stylized sketch is not necessarily worse than a realistic sketch.
NS2 has more eye candy than most games, it's just not in a 'realistic' sense.

wtf are you sure your older processor wasn't overheating and throttling back? are you using an aftermarket cooler?
