Hey there guys, I was wondering if it's possible to run the game in local area network? Me and my friends are thinking of buyinf 5 4-packs for our LAN parties, but our connection cant handle that many people looged on at the same time. Many thanks!
No. You must be online to steam and connect through the online server list unfortunately. If I knew this in advance I probably would never have bothered buying the game, but now that I have at least I know it's (mostly) awesome when I do have an internet connection. But parts of me still resents this fact.
i think u have to authenciate through steam but u can connect it through lan...? not sure. basically my server is just right besides me on lan. and seems i have the option to connect it through lan as shown on the server lobby. just not quite sure.

Well you could BOTH open online with ONLine disconnected, select 'open offline' then PHYSICALLY remove your computers to the correct location, restart both and connect OFFLINE.
Oh wait, I don;t have 6000 wannabe posts or 500+ ############onlinehours, better no help people (or ask for help) ..... TALL POPPY SYNDROME should always belong within NZ's borders. .... we dont need people who can't use capitals help.
Most LAN parties should have internet access in this days, because many multiplayer games need steam to be online. To join a local server just type "connect [ip]" in console.

Prettymuch what _Necro_ has stated. One of you needs a powerful enough machine, and once Steam Auth's everyone, hosting a listen server and getting everyone else to use "connect 192.168.x.x" should be the equivalent of a LAN game.
Keep in mind, Steam isn't the friendliest toward LAN, so make sure to not use the overlay to connect to eachother. Use the ingame console, which can be brough up at any time with ~.

It's not that we dont have an internet connection, we do. But it would be 20 people playing on it.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
For a 20 person game you would need a dedicated server with some pretty good power to it. Not sure how things have cleaned up since the beta, but servers typically were very cpu intensive and most of the good ones that were running 24 slots had i7's OC'ed to 4.2ghz or higher.
