Fight For The Hives

<div class="IPBDescription">Changed in 1.04?</div> Many of the balance posts recently have been about how the first 10 mins would decide the game's outcome based on who could bum rush 2 hives first. Now those of you who've been playing on 1.04s did this change to the better or is it still the same?

    Just plazed 5 games on a beta server and the aliens won everz single one easily. We even won the one where a noob gorge (did i mentioned we had at least 3 gorges in all the games) placed sensory as first chamber. It seems that without the siege the marines lost all of their self confidence as they all ran around the map like headless chickens only waiting to be bitten by a skulk. The organized marine rushs seem all gone. Must be the shock of not owning the aliens within the first 3 minutes.

    PS: Offence chambers now rule since they can not be sieged easily. 2 in a hive and basic marines are screwed without teamwork muahaha. revenge for our fallen brothers fellow karaah brethren.

    then you saw 8 HA/HMG marines with no ammo, or perhaps they were blind, or quadraplegic or something. Or none of the marines had a welder, were all low on health and all standing really close together. Probably building a <!--emo&::sentry::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/turret.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='turret.gif'><!--endemo--> or something.

    i think that the Give resources when u go to the ready room exploit is a HUGE advantage for the aliens, Also Aliens usually win cause they can get fade faster than marines can get HA and HMG due to the exploit.

    Just spent a few hours playing off and on today and I have to say.. it takes more teamwork for the marines now. The way siege was prior to this patch allowed it to turn the game into a moron-a-thon of siege bases, turtling, siege base.. etc etc. Now they actually have to risk dying in order to take out the hives. (or spend the Res to scan)

    Aliens won maybe 6 games out of 10, I'd say 2 of those were from rushes and the other 4 were good fights for the aliens. Marines still can totally obliterate the aliens when played well and with teamwork.. as they should be.

    All-in-all I have to give this patch two-thumbs up from what I have seen. Playing as a marine and as an alien.

    I've played a few more rounds now, one as commander and a few as alien. No marine wins, but I don't think a marine win is impossible. Unfortunatly, very few of my marines knew what they were doing, maybe none of them, actually. We got off to a bad start after a nasty alien rush (if I had better marines, a rush shouldn't have been a problem) and things went downhill from there. I noticed that most of the marine players were fairly new, most didn't even realize they were playing on a 1.04 server, this particularly was a big deal when it came time to use seige cannons (yes, laugh, it is funny.)

    The games I played as alien were a breeze, but most of my alien teammates had a good idea of what was going on, and many had some knowledge about the changes in the server they were playing on. I would be willing to bet that most of the good players ended up on the alien team because they heard about marines sucking, didn't want to lose, and love being able to feel like they have an advantage.

    None of the updates and fixes change the game enough to make a difference in which team will win when the players on both teams generally know how to play. Eventually, pub players will learn to adapt to these things and the marines will start to see more wins. This thing has only been out a day, and very few people have played it for very little time. Save judgement until after the avarage NS player has had 20 or so hours with it...

    i really disagree with the phase gates health being lowered, the server i play at has decided to not install the 1.04 patch

    EDIT: The server installed the patch right on time, and some of my favorite games of all time were played on 1.04 <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    If your server decides not to install the new patch, guess what?

    I simply won't play there...too much bug and exploit fixing to ignore it...and I must say I agree with every change!

    Just like when 1.03 came out, a few servers I play at decided not to install the patch because of the changes...

    I have won around 10 games commanding as marines so far in 1.04.

    Most games I see aliens win, but thats usually due to inexperienced players/commanders, and lack of imagination when it comes to new stratagies. Lets face it the game dynamics have changed, and the stratagies need to change with them.

    It is definatly more work to win as a marine now, but not impossible.

    Having said that however, using the old fashioned phase rush is still the most viable way to win, but I think that is more due to the fact that its the easiest strat to get the soldiers to go along with. Old habits die hard.

    I think with changes in 1.04 we may see more balanced level 3 HA+HMG vs 3 Hive alien battles, but this will depend on the team work of the marines.

    What the heck are you trying to point out here? There doesn't seem to be any logic flowing from you comment.

    Of course he knows it takes resources to evolve, that's what he's talking about: Aliens are getting resources way fast with the exploit.
