Do you think this rig could run NS2?

<!--quoteo(post=2027335:date=Nov 17 2012, 02:15 PM:name=SupaDupaNoodle)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (SupaDupaNoodle @ Nov 17 2012, 02:15 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=2027335"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->OK I'll say it: I like having the start menu as a menu, not a gigantic all-encompassing monstrosity. I would have liked the option to have it like in Win7 (the option, not some unilateral shove-in-your-face redesign). I also like having buttons on windows that look more like something from the 21st century and not some flat plain looking dull image that looks like one step behind Win95. I also like having a start button on the desktop.

Yes Win8 is smoother/faster: but that's because they've removed so many features which provided functionality. Sure you can get them again from the MS AppStore, but you have to pay for stuff that came as standard till Win8. No thanks. Finally, I wouldn't mind any of this if the damned thing worked intuitively. I'm a pretty knowledgeable guy when it comes to computers, but I found it so hard to go from eg. the metro Mail app back to the start screen. Escape doesn't work, there's no return arrow on the screen to click/touch. After much fiddling I realized you have to move your mouse to the bottom left corner, or do something on the right side of the screen. Yeah, you can press start, but there's something so odd about having to do everything so differently after years of doing it one way (ie having mail as a window of outlook or whatever, as one of several windows open at the same time).

They should have separated out Win8 Metro and Win8 standard -- Metro is great for phones and tablets, but a disaster for desktops. I don't know what MS were thinking. Come January there are going to be a lot of people around the world demanding downgrades to Win7.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The sad part is that a MS representative defended Windows 8 by saying Windows Vista / 7's Aero theme looked gimmicky and outdated.

Personally I like 7 with list view on task manager (instead of table, because text is better than icons - Hey, all the pro players in C.S. 1.6 disabled Graphical User Interface and used text only buy menus, and I like it on my OS like a boss too) with a registry edit, and well a ton of stuff that makes it like Vista except without all the annoying "we know better than you" features like how windows automatically resize when you drag it too far, etc.

Do I like to rant about the old stuff being better because the new stuff is too automated *cough, "Switch To Tab" in Firefox, Cough*.

(Also I used Firefox back when it was the cool thing to use, 1.5. I used it thanks to these forums too.)

Anyway I rant because I hope a MS representative is randomly reading this thread >.>.

Also thanks to [WHO] Them for praising Vista when it was released. I remember everyone hating on it, then I used it, then Wow, it's great. Really, after Service Pack 2, Vista is great (it's a mix of XP and 7). Though, I'd recommend getting 7 over Vista. Besides not being able to disable auto arrange in folders (which is silly), you can nearly make windows 7 look and act like vista (my favorite again is "List View for windows 7", just some registry tweaks and it's back to the superior, pro C.S. 1.6 players disable the GUI and use text only buy menus, like a boss, task manager list view for programs).

Edit - To actually be on topic. NS2 (at least AFAIK), and most games actually, do not support more than 2 cores usually. Also Intel is much better than AMD these days (AMD screwed up on the last processors they made). So while both AMD and Intel may have processors with nearly the same specs (like 3.4 GHz) Intel is currently better. So, in case you go shopping in the future.

I am so pleased and happy. I bet I could play Mechwarrior Online and Dark Souls on it as well. Low settings, obviously.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Thanks for confirming!
Good to hear you can play.

I was about to say. Yes it will work. It is almost the same spec as my RUREK.001 5560. Use Kstat to overclock (2.73GHz for me with 3ghz boost) then you can move most to medium at 1366x768 (apart from shadows and occlusion). Plays just fine.

As for people who say laptops cannot be overclocked; in this case you are wrong. The llano chipset is designed to overclock itself. AMD were very very conservative with the specs plus they overvolted the things. If you undervolt the cpu then you can pretty much run it at full boost all the time. I have had a fair amount of gaming on it with no temp issues.

Yeah I'm gonna go ahead and say no. If you can even run it at all.
