Onos are practically extinct now
The new patch has nerfed the Onos into oblivion. Without the commander's ability to drop Onos eggs before 3 hives, we're seeing fewer and fewer Onos in every match.

Yet, life finds a way. ^^

Every single one of those Onos in that screenshot did the whole "team-skulk" thing really really well. Without having to say or plan anything, a bunch of skulks would get into ambush spots while a couple of others would bait the marines in and then run away. While the killboard remained fairly even, the entire round played out in tunnels in and around Water Pumps. It was ambush after ambush. Every time the marines thought they had run the skulks off, they'd suddenly find 2 or 3 coming from the room they had just cleared.
Our commander pretty much had free reign of the rest of the map, which is why we all had the res to go Onos at about the 12 minute mark. Really wish I had remembered to take that screenshot earlier.
This change gives people a reason to fade and lerk now.
Like NS1. Which you know, was actually BALANCED?

Yeah...umm did you really play the original? Cause I want to see your source on that.
If they were going to make it 3rd hive, they should have left it as strong as it is, or made it stronger even. Or they could have nerfed it and left it 2nd hive. Shouldn't have done both.

Make onos even stronger? What pills have you been taking? Don't see what all the fuss is about honestly. You can still go onos at one hive if you save up your res, and the nerf itself isn't that huge anyway. The only thing that has significantly changed is the timing at which onos can come into play, and that change is undoubtedly for the best.
My name. It's proof. Just because i only joined the forums for NS2 doesn't mean i'm new.

I used that nick as a joke for a few years, because i cbf playing properly.
Did you look at his screenshot? Look at it carefully.
It is now almost as rare to see an onos as it is to see a Duel Exo...
Totally imbalanced..
I want more guarantees for all games to drag on for the entire tech tree to be accessed before it can end!

back when fades were worth the 50 res

I like the new patch.

I enjoyed the game I posted about.

The original post was satire.

What makes you think you've been playing longer than me? Why would it matter anyway? NS1 is over, man.

yes
So, next to Pipeline, Cave has become one of the worst starting locations for Aliens? A res node at start, Caverns, and friggin' Crusher to easily grab....

No. It makes it hard to play onos, but there is still only marginal reason to lerk and very little reason to fade. Neither lifeform got buffed, and both are still far, far too fragile to invest so much res in.
I don't know why they nerfed mineshaft. I've had some truly horrible experiences with good marine teams in the beta, especially if they spawn in drill repair.
Drill repair/cave starts -> kiss crushing machine and cavern RTs goodbye. Phase gate in cavern? Cave is gone. Good luck trying to live on 2 RTs in cave and sorting. And maybe deposit...? And try to get into central? Just... bad.
I guess the only thing you can do as aliens against experienced marines now is pray you don't start in cave and push for operations?
fewer? are you sure?
Most games I've been in almost the entire team saves for onos thinking that they gotta pull it out because the commander may not be able to
One game 7 people went onos at the same time. . . 8 in another
Marine team basically just ****s themselves
I've also been seeing alot more Fades hitting the floor. . . I saw 6 in one game and I think that is a record for me personally seeing that many alive at one time
I think this patch is a step in the right direction.
Also adding to others that I'm seeing more fades now, which is really a good thing for the game that people start using them and get better at it rather than just going the low skill tank over and over.
