port more NS1 maps please UWE!

Dear UWE, you guys have ported ns_veil to NS2, why not port some of the other vanilla ns1 maps to ns2? Here's the list:

ns_agora (really miss this classic map, make it smaller for 8v8)
ns_ayumi
ns_bast (must have! may have balancing issues with marine dropping PG due to being multi-layered)
ns_caged
ns_eclipse (must have!)
ns_hera (not sure if it'd work for cyst chain due to being multi layered)
ns_lost (miss building outside external overlook)
ns_metal (must have!)
ns_mineshaft (really miss this classic map, make it smaller for 8v8)
ns_nancy (must have!)
ns_nothing (must have! really miss the red room!)
ns_origin (must have! not sure if it'd work for cyst chain due to being multi layered)
ns_tanith (must have!)
ns_veil (already ported to NS2)
ns_machina (best looking map in NS1)
ns_shiva
ns_altair
ns_eon
ns_lucid (not a fan of this map, it's too simple)

    It's not as simple as porting the maps, it is actually a complete rebuild from scratch based on the original. Not an easy task that is quickly done, besides as you can see with how ns2_veil plays, there are indeed some issues to have it work with NS2 gameplay. Veil still has issues even after the redesign...

    that was no simple port, as you can see if you actually played the map, it is grandly different from ns1 veil.
    Maybe we could have the map maker saying how much of a headache it was to make, both balance wise and mapping wise?

    I dont really get this remake hype, imho its much more fun to play new maps than revisiting maps i've already crunched to death.

    Add to that the fact that the old maps were basically a spiderweb of corridors, where NS2 is more focused around bigger rooms.

    And UWE didnt do the remakes, the fans did (so go make it yourselfl ;).

    NS2 itself is essentially a NS1 remake. So don't say "I don't get the remake hype" if you're already playing NS2.

    I played quite a few ported NS1 maps on a server. It wasn't all that great. NS1 maps were built with a different system in mind.

    Although, the nostalgia factor was pretty cool.

    Mineshaft is already there. Eclipse being finalized.

    More maps are incoming, that is for sure. But it's only one (or two now) guys in UWE who are working with the maps... So it's almost the same as any community map - too low human resources to polish and publish them fast.

    It is indeed easier to work with 'blueprints' (NS1 maps), rather than creating a new ones from the scratch, however it is also hard to balance them for NS2. You can make entire level (map, roots, textures) same as in NS1 (or modify them a bit) but it could end up VERY VERY unbalanced, which will require more re-working. Especially for the competitive gameplay. Currently there are only 3 competitive maps, which is a very poor number...

    We need a few dedicated members of community, who want to create maps and who have a broad grasp of NS2 gameplay. That way we will get more maps in shorter period. :>

    Caged, Veil, Eclipse, Nothing and Nancy were my favorites.

    My favorite maps were the spaceship ones. They had that eerie cramped feeling that went well with the kind of game NS was/is.

    Not that all the rooms were tiny, but more cramped in that you knew aliens were there but never sure where/what happened to the crew. Like the cockpit in Nancy...perfect NS right there.

    I would love to see Nancy, Bast, and Eon redone.

    We need some abandoned alien riddled space ships up in this NS2.

    I'm sure there are users re-creating these maps for the community. Hopefully UWE integrates them into the official map cycle.
