Car or computer?

<div class="IPBDescription">I can't decide</div>*nerdy voice* From what I've been able to calculate, by the end of the summer I should have about $5k to play with.

Thing is, I'm torn between what I should do: there's a buttload of stuff I want to do to my car ( another engine swap, more speakers, put in TV reception in addition to the DVD shiznit, interior lighting, etc...) and then there's my computer- it's decent, but I really want a XP 2000 with a GeForce 4, 1 gig of DDR ram, a water cooled case, a CD burner that writes at more than 2x, Quad Raid Drives.... you know just a "few" things...

But I can't do both with the money I'll have, and I'm torn between the two...

    Computer.

The car stuff is actually going to last you more then 2 years, unlike the computer... but... you know...

Depends. Which will make you more money?

    If neither, then your computer.

Do you want a flashy car?  What's more important to you?  I think you might have more fun if you put it into your car.

Hehe, what will you spend more time with? Driving cars or using computers? (was tempted to say computing computers <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->)

I think spending it on your car might be a good choice..., but then you might regret it after using the comp for a while. :S

Id go with a bling blingin car speaker system, then buy some computer stuff. But all in all I would rather have a nice car than a computer. Y

Cars last longer when thinking about value...

You only need top-notch computers for gaming (if you're not making huge 3d art, etc), while a good car is nice to have for years to come, and you won't feel like it's old right away either. Computers get old after two years. :S

But I guess people who do not drive themselves most often will suggest that you buy a computer. Do you really want their advice?

Yeah, but the stuff he's talking about adding to the car is all superfluous stuff (except maybe the engine?) - TV reception, lighting, etc.  As someone who does drive and would *love* a car of my own, I still can't really see why you need that kind of stuff in a car.  Good parts?  Yes.  Good sound system?  Not high priority, but definite yes.  TV?  Um... unless you're trying to keep a pair of 4-year-olds in the back seat occupied, I really don't see the point.  It's not like you can watch TV and drive - or at least you *shouldn't* be.

Computer?  Well, mine's sorely in need of <s>an upgrade</s> complete replacement, so that's where I'd lean.  I'm also getting into graphic art and really need a workstation that can handle manipulating very large (I scan everything at 300dpi, at least) PSD files for hours at a stretch.

There are also computer peripherals you can buy - nice mouse, keyboard, speakers, monitor - that will still be wonderful even after your box is obsolete.  I'll be keeping my monitor (17"), speakers (Cambridge Soundworks), and mouse (Intellimouse Explorer USB) when I finally upgrade.  Well, maybe I'll go for a bigger monitor.  (:

think of it this way.. you can get in a wreck with a computer and loose all that new stuff... "Computer" <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

Well... I'm still torn. currently my car ('94 civic EX) is pretty tricked out: it already has two 6" LCDs, DVD, two 12" subs (360 watts total there), two 1.5" tweeters, two three way 5.25" speakers (front), two four way 6.75" speakers (rear) neon trim on the door panels, and dash board, 400w (4 channels, 100 watts each) amplifier for the tweeters and incab speakers...
but I've been wanting to put in two 8"s subs in the front, put in a TV/VCR receiver so I can have more than just DVDs for the road trips, put in more neon trim in the back area for maximum P-factor, and also... there's the engine swap... I want more speed, and to get the time slots I want (about 13 seconds) it'll cost about $5,000 total for the performance mods (most of the cost is the engine thou...)

BUt the computer... my current one is okay, but I want to build a top of the line gaming one from scratch (believe it or not, my current computer used to be a P2 400). water cooled case, over a gig of DDR, athlon XP 2000, quad raid drives.... everything top of the line- a top notch sound system too... (well, I suppose I could port over my SB Live! 5.1 Platinum... to the new machine), cool looking conduits w/ neon trim like I've got in my car, custom "heavy metal" case (gonna try and paint it black then put a bunch of metal spikes on it), a  skull painted on the side, etc.. and all that will run me about $5k also...

argh. I'll just flip a coin at the end of the summer and see what happens.
