Losing alien abilities upon evolution, WAI?

Today in a game, I was playing as aliens. We were playing on Veil and our Sub-Sector hive was being ARCed from System Waypointing. I decided to try and stop it so I evolved gorge. When I did, we had 2 hives and Bile Bomb. So I evolved and began biling the ARCs. I quickly remembered that I hadn't gotten adrenaline so I retreated to the hive and evolved it.

Now, between when I finished evolving gorge and when I began evolving adrenaline, we had lost our second hive. When I finished evolving adrenaline, low and behold, I no longer had Bile Bomb.

I know that abilities are supposed to stay with you until your death if you have them and then lose the second hive. Are they supposed to disappear when you evolve an upgrade? Is this WAI?

    Also, if you lose the upgrade chamber for, say, Adrenaline but you have it upgraded on your life form it will prohibit you from evolving anything else, even if you're not trying to change the 'lost' upgrade.

    Weird stuff.

    We had a game once where as aliens we lost our 2nd hive, but long after we lost it we could still bilebomb, leap and spore (even after dying)
