Can NS2 run on this PC?

My friends PC specs are:

CPU: intel Q6600 (775 socket @ stock speeds)
RAM: 6GB
VFX: 8800GTX (with 768MB of VRAM; playing on a 22" screen)
OS: Linux (Ubuntu)

Would anybody happen to know what kind of performance could be expected using this build?
And; if it can work with OS?

If not on Linux, will NS2 run on Windows 8? I have a free copy thats all.
They get 100+ fps on CS:S on max details

All help appreciated :)

Nope. Since I assume FPS matter to you, you are not getting even close to 60!
Unless you seriously bump the CPU speed. I'm not sure about the GPU. I guess it doesn't matter as much as your CPU.
Buy the game and upgrade down the line :P

So; in your opinion, would you think 30FPS is achievable on 16 player server, with medium detail settings?

High graphics is not as important as fluidity of visual output, so low details are always optional

    Q6600 which is overclocked to 3.2ghz, GTX460
    I get 60-70 early game
    50-30 mid game
down to 20 late game, but stays 30-40 outside of fights, in the bigger fights goes down to 10
waiting on GPU never goes above 0, so no GPU bottleneck.

Windows 8 will probably give you the best performance. Can probably run medium textures with 768mb of VRAM, the rest disabled or on low and your processor will be your bottleneck always if you don't overclock it. You may get half the performance I get, so unless 30fps is fine for you, it's time to upgrade or wait on optimizations. According to UWE their goal is to make NS2 run on a similar system to yours, although I think I remember the words "at launch" attached to that, and it's been a while already.
