Picking up dropped weapons

To pick up someone's dropped weapon you have to look at it and press G which is also the default "drop weapon and go unarmed". If you mis-target a grab then you'll end up with your weapon and the target weapon on the ground next to each other and have to work even harder to pick up the correct one (it takes a second to settle and you have a pickup delay), all the while taking damage from whatever killed the first guy.
Can weapon-switch be assigned to a different key than weapon drop? Or have auto-pickup like ns1.

I don't see anything wrong with auto pickup and a drop key, honestly
maybe a countdown timer for dropped weapons would be nice too
I also hate dying with 30 shots in a shotgun maybe, going back to pick it up and it's empty, got me killed quite often.
Why not just make it so if the marine that bought the gun steps within, say, a meter of the gun, it's life is extended by half a second or something? Just so we dont go running around throwing our weapons uselessly at fades :(
I'd also like to see auto-switching turned off for this functionality, so you don't switch to that empty shotgun when trying to pistol whip an enemy.
Finally, allow people to pick up weapons manually by looking at it and pressing the use key. This will drop your current primary and take the selected one.
These three features ought to polish up the scavenging system to perfection; you're not constantly picking up LMGs when you want that shotgun, and you can pick and choose in case a squad dropped a bunch of special weapons.

E already has a the 'use' function so why not use it to use(pickup) weapons! :)
first time I was happily hitting the use key, wondering why my weapon wasn't switched before opening my eyes, noticing it used the drop menu.
Right now I still drop my weapon instead of picking up sometimes
