I was trolly as they came when it came to me playing Corp. I'd always build these super remote servers and have just crap in there, or a trap hidden behind several layers of ice where a bunch of small ones at first to nickel and dime you, and then when you think the last one before your goal is going to be more of the same, BAM, mastiff. :D
I always made it a mission to kill the netrunner by means of meat damage too just for lols.
Anyone know if you can play the new Android netrunner using boosters from the original deck? or a pure original deck to teach the newbies how old school players did it? :D
Edit : For your Janis 1.0, here is why I mentioned this card previously. I love it. Skullcap

sigh, all I ever want is to know what is coming up in NS2 - this is hardly ever a main news item :(
we get teased about upcoming things in the forums all the time(with text anyway) but I would love to see a screenshot of a new level or a new feature which is being considered.
i'm not being negative or mean, i just want you guys to know that that is what i like to read about the most. ( as cool as you guys are, its the game i'm here for :P)
Lol you scared all the nannas with something that looked to much like *change* !
Something new, omg, better put my mind into tower defense mode ... oh, hey, the post did relate to NS2, it described the mental state of the NS2 forum: vulnerable :)

QUOTE (Strayan (NS2HD) @ Jan 10 2013, 04:21 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

One of the new year resolutions at UWE is to blog more often, and about more varied content. We want this blog to be more than just NS2 change logs. Everyone from the team is going to be contributing content. At first glance, many of these posts will not seem to be NS2 related. Brian's post, about his experience in the card game Netrunners, is a perfect example.
Without exception, all of these posts are an insight into the minds of the people working on NS2 every day, and tangentially relate to its continued development by informing you about how we all think. For example, I will be making a post about modeling micro-transactions in Free-To-Play games. This does not mean we are even considering making NS2 Free-To-Play, it is just an interesting thing to write and think about.
Enjoy and never fear, NS2 related posts will continue as they always have.

Who's up for some NS2-Monopoly? Maybe these blogs shouldn't be printed out in full on the main page but only a header with a link to the full blog? Dunno just seems to take over the front page with a big da fuq quick look :)
there should be a dev blog for these where dev can give us more insight into the developement or post interesting things that are less on topic, and a different blog for the big news annoucements.

and a blog that tells me when the bloggers post a blog on any of the previously mentioned blogs
What's funny (in a sad way) is that many of the replies are typical of the darkness in this community. When there was a thread about how new players were treated badly, these same people howled about how they are 'so good' to the newbies. Yet one look at this thread shows their true colours. If this is how they treat a developer, imagine how they treat a player in-game. It's sad, it really is. (Reminds me of 'The Guild' - season 6.)
For what it's worth, I got the point Brian was making, and while I haven't played Netrunner since the 90's, there are many parallels that can be made. Frankly I found his OP/ED an interesting read. It's too bad the haters had to come out to play. :/
I can conjure theories on the relation between Netrunner and NS2, but its not what I come to the website for. Its great that you guys are going to post more often, but either keep it on topic or specifically state the relation to the game and what your posting please. I don't want to read an essay on a card game, I want to know whats going on with my favorite multiplayer game.
I do not play card games...However...if you dont understand the importance of why playing these types of games are important to inspire gameplay changes...need I say anymore?
Just because soemthing isnt on a brand new 22 inch monitor doesnt mean it has less of an impact on decision making+ideas.
The devs are basically exploring new ideas+possibilities...am I missing something?
Keep up the great work devs...no regreats in pre-ordering...apart from not having the black armour!

We're used to seeing stuff that is specifically talking about NS2 on the front page. So it's jarring to see anything else. Should get back on topic now without discussion of how confused you are.
I think the main problem here is not the post itself, its just that the content took everyone... by surprise.
Ok, you guys at UWE are posting more general blogs now, to do with your thought processes and how you see NS2 progressing and growing, that's cool. But at least tell us that before springing this news post on us.
Another word of advice, for future reference: if you are going to highlight similarities between two game systems, strongly reference the system that the reader will be familiar with, and weakly reference the one he won't be familiar with. This blog post was far too indepth with regard to netrunner and its inner workings, and can leave the reader in a confused state.
going off-topic in a on-topic thread in a off-topic forum. ns2 dev's life is part of ns2 but merry christmas isnt. one day we will see crack on front page
and yes, although android netrunner is ranked #8 today, its overrated. just like dominion and 7 wonders.
It's a bit interesting to know what other games have had an impression on NS2, but if you're going to write about them on the NS2 front page you really need to more clearly tie it to NS2. NS2 is also a rock-paper-scissor game, so I get that, but have it had any impact on the ongoing balancing of NS2, or are any of the abilities inspired by those in Netrunner and so on...?
It is indeed very fun, and somehow manages to be completely different than Magic: The Gathering. My favorite strategy is to try and kill the runners outright if I'm the corp, mostly with tagging. With the Weyland deck there are some cards (I forget which) that allow you to do a ton of damage before the runner can react to it. The runners usually have to try and figure it out in advance by snitching cards from your HQ.
Securing Vulnerabilities vs Opportunity Cost is vaguely related to NS2, but obviously those who haven't played Netrunner won't understand the mild resemblance. There are many places an enemy can attack in NS2, so you have to plan your defenses accordingly (be flexible) while at the same time not pass up on good opportunities to crush your opponent.
(Anyway, I personally don't care if some people here haven't played the game or want something more NS2 related. The article was more interesting to me than yet another "XYZ is OP" thread by clueless people.)

Or at least have columns and rows cards are placed along. So many possible ways to design the fundamental mechanics before balance even becomes possible to think about.

Seriously. That kind of news fits much better @ your company-site http://www.unknownworlds.com/ . Not especially on the NS2-main page.
And its way to less of an "insight into the minds of the people working on NS" . Its a review to a cardgame.

Yes you should say more do go on
Vulnerabilitiy is a huge part of NS2 and should IMO be more readily apparent.
That and unknowing tension.
If you don't like it, dont read it. What's so hard about that?

Just add this in the end:
"So that is why we made the Gorge have bilebomb, and not the Lerk"
Or something ;P
