I like them both. I usually start out NS2 with some combat but then get a little tired of deathmatch and go to a normal server.
Combat is great for practicing the different alien lifeforms without losing them and even trying out some marine weapons. The mod is also very tight and streamlined making upgrading and refunding easy. You also get to see Devour and some other perks that are fun.

In NS1 Combat definitely was more fun.
In NS2 it's nearly even, but Standard is more fun.

NS1 combat was fun. After 3.0, combat beat normal. NS1 2.4 was the best NS1 normal, imo; better atmosphere than NS2.
Right down the bottom, there was no 2.4. <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/static/Natural_Selection_Manual.html" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/static/Nat...ion_Manual.html</a>
Some good maps coming around for co_, I give it a month or 2 before it starts really taking off.

I got 1.04 and 2.01 mixed up. Basically, the last patch before 3.0.
You gotta love combat just for the pure fact that they brought back devour for the onos. Though will have to agree that many times combat is unbalanced since many of the upgrades and abilities are based off of standard game play, i.e. buildings. That’s why I am just so waiting for buildmenu and xmenu. There’s also many more maps for combat and my personal favorite, aliens don't have to worry about egg regen.

Its like they increases the health of the comm chair and armory by 10 times, but if you get an exo into the hive room its basically GG in 10 seconds.

I'm expecting this thread to turn ugly soon though.
Cant really be an effective skulk or fade when i have to anticipate my leaps and blinks by a few seconds :(
Great for practising my aim though ;)
EDIT: By classic I mean the standard mode.
oh, and exos and onos are stupid
Combat never floated my boat, if I want to play a deathmatch style game there are many better games in that format.
I like the strategy that goes into classic, choosing tech options not only for yourself but for your team makes it more interesting.
Combat I always felt like I was playing solo alien and not part of the swarm.

Thank though.
I'm going to go ahead and close this.
