FIXED - Can't play (no menu icons)

<div class="IPBDescription">picture of sewer</div>I CANT GET INTO THE GAME! please help
Hey guys I've been around since the old NS and played my way through ALpha, Beta of this game.. I missed about 10 or so patches as I had a break for 6 months.
Steam has updated NS2 but I only get a screen with a picture of a sewer ( in game like picture) with some lights flickering here and there.. I can see my mouse pointer and I can take screen shots, music even plays..But I can't see any menu icons to click on or anything..have tried validating files, and deleting some cache from a folder but It hasn't helped unfortunately....
Anyone got any ideas?
have tried restarting this and that, no good

    Well this sucks, still no luck..do you reakon I delete local game content and re-download? dont think I have much of a download left this month : (

    If you haven't tried it yet:
    Let Steam check if any Files from NS2 are corrupted. If so, Steam will redownload the missing or corrupted files (Verifiy integrity of game cache).

    If your Problem is still there after this, i would recommend a fresh install as you mentioned.

    Well i still can't play, seems at this rate I never will LOL.
    Just updated to the new video card driver.. 13. something... same problem.
    It wouldnt work on the 12.2 driver either..and some people said it fixed theirs..

    I have tried re-installing the game..just does the same thing

    Have you tried looking at your log file to see if there are any errors that could be related to the problem?

    If you do not know how to get to this:

    C:/ > Users > [Username] > AppData > Roaming > Natural Selection 2 > log.txt

    In NS2, open the console with § / ~ / ´, and see if you see any errors. Try and deleting your shaders in steam\steamapps\common\natural selection 2\ns2\.

    Also try to run the DX redist package installer in natural selection 2\redist\directx\ and running SETUP.EXE.

    Someone else had that exact issue, and was fully solved by updating the ATI drivers. I don't have an ATI card, just saying I saw it on the forums.

    thanks for the replies will get to it, im new to looking aT log files etc. have tried different drivers.
    ill let you know how i go thanks again
    when i press console i get heaps of shader errors

    they all say the same thing.

    Error: shader/GUIBasic.surface_shader: No shader template loaded for surface shader manager
