Marines Need Some Sort of Pazazz

Hey guys this is more of a discussion than anything. I was playing a game earlier as Marines and got to thinking. Marines don't really have anything that makes them special. Sure they have jetpacks and exoskeletons. But really aren't those a given? My thought on marines is "Well it's the future kind of, they better have that stuff." Where as Aliens seem more creative/fun to play. You can walk on walls, have super cool alien thermal vision, evolve into different life forms, choose your abilities, and so on. Marine's just kind of feel bland to me. I often find myself choosing Aliens over marines (not because they win more), but because the experience is more enjoyable, more broad, and more rewarding. You have a lot more choice in playing Aliens as well as kind of crafting your experience. Where as Marines feel more linear. The way I personally feel about marines is "Hey they're in the future. They should have a hell of a lot more than just jetpacks and exo's." I mean shoot it's 2013 and we almost have that technology. I guess I just feel kind of let down with the creativity put into the Marine side of things. The weapons are very primitive for the time being portrayed. Assault Rifles, Shotguns, Grenade Launchers, and Flamethrowers. Shoot I could go down to Walmart and gets thems (Dramatization). I don't want Marines to be overpowered and super special or anything. Just to create a more immersive and enjoyable experience for Marines. Something that makes them unique in their own way. Some PAZAZZ! I know I'm kind of ranting but my hope is to put this out there and see if others feel the same way.

Also, Marines have a special you don't see: Nanites.
But yeah, they are no superheros. They act like clones, they are used as cannonfodder and ultimately all the technology they use seems kinda recycled.
I would like to see marine weapons being more interesting, as it stands they're the same guns we had in HL1 more or less. I like cool guns in games.

Chainsaw upgrade for LMG melee attack. WRRRRRRRRRRRRCHCHCHGLSPCHHHHHHHH
Its not infinite.
Yeah, it's ~150 shots. Though they can be recharged in just about any way imaginable. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Lasgun#.UP1PD2dIq2o
Also rechargable by tossing them in a fire lol
tl;dr I agree with the OP, give marines cooler ######.
It was planned as taser. We, the community went bat###### about it though.
Still, most of the suggestions are 2 badass again, but a way of customization, fitting to you as individual marines, would be really appreciated. I always imagined how cool it would be if you got the Ns1 LMG as option to use.

Yea, that Fallout 3 laser rifle is so damn sexy. Would love to have something similar in NS2.
And I totally agree that Marines need more hi-tech equipment. Most of their toys feel like they could be manufactured even in the present day or in very near future (obviously excluding nanite magic and teleportation). They don't fit very well as weapons of a space-faring civilization. In my opinion there should be more energy based weapons or at least magnetic mass drivers (Gauss weaponry).
To go back to the commander action of Nullify, this ability can be used to make a completely stealth attack on a an alien structure, such as a harvester, without the aliens even knowing. Suddenly, the marines would be acting differently to take the advantage of this with surprise and bluff techniques. At the moment, marines can never be 'off the radar', so to speak, but with something like this, aliens will realise they can no longer take the hive sight for granted, and will need to keep an eye on their back lines.
Also ghost armor and alloy cannons so I can crit kill onos.
instead of weapons 1,2,3 upgarde how about things you can see and "feel" that do more damage, by either putting out more rounds, bigger rounds, or increasnig accuracy - rather than a hidden magic number and sound effect- things like:
bigger magazine - shows a drum or even bigger upgrade: bullet belt style ammo container instead of a clip
faster fire rate - changes the sound too to make it sound cooler
slight FoV zoom (narrows the view, but lets you see better far away) - animation shows marine zooming in, so that sneaky skulks can flank without being seen. puts a little red dot scope on the gun.
motion tracking - (like when you use a ping, but permanent)
faster reload - more time shoot'n less time reloading :)
larger caliber barrel / ammo - each bullet packs more punch, has really obvious tracers - perhaps blue nanite style tracers. perhaps actually has some kickback.
and so on :)
This also means that the commander's job is more interesting as there is more choice in strategy instead of just plain going weap 1 then 2 then 3 - you could get these varied upgrades in any order to counter an alien tactic or to attack the way you want to.
you could do similar things with armor upgrades to keep them more interesting rather than just plain - 'its now more bites to kill a marine', to actually doing things in game which allows marines to be bitten less or survive more hits.
Some AvP Motion Tracking type thing would be bad ass.
