Recent servers and Kharaa vision

<div class="IPBDescription">Just some random thoughts</div>First, please please PLEASE implement a recent servers tab. I'm slowly trying to build a list of favourite servers, but it's not easy. Unless I specifically remember to check the server name (and I'll be honest - I get lost in the game and forget about that), then there's no way for me to check on which server I was playing on.

My only clue thus far as far as finding a good server is checking the number of players. I feel 12-14 is the best experience, so I look for servers with that player number. Since most public servers seem to be going for 16+, it makes finding what I want easier. STILL, I'd prefer build a nice list of favourites.

And secondly... the default Kharaa vision.

I'm sort of wondering, WHY on earth would any Kharaa want to use anything OTHER than the enhanced vision (default F). Seriously, enlighten me. But whenever I DO use that enhanced vision, I have a feeling I'm making a texture designer cry.

Would it be that big of a rip-off from Aliens if Kharaa got something similar, i.e. a glowing outline of living targets (colour coded - hostile and friendly) within sight? Note that I said "living". Buildings and robots (ARCs, Exos) wouldn't get that outline. This is just to keep things interesting. ;)

I believe Alien vision does not show, flashlights, bullets, fire, and particle effects in general. It's harder to see if marines are attacking/aming at you.

About the only times I think about turning it off is when looking at a transparent surface (ie glass) because those are made completely invisible and it's impossible to see where any gap or hole is, and when the area is completely full of structures and or friendlies, because too much orange and the enemies blend in more than they do in normal vision.

Instead of a tab, server history would be best accomplished by adding a column on the main server browser with the date and time you last joined each server. You could then sort the browser based on that column to see your recent history.

I turn off Alien vision as a Gorge when trying to line up the Bile Bomb's arc, and as a Celeri-Lerk because the fast speed means I can get lost if I'm not paying too much attention - end up turning back in to a hostile area!

I'd need to dig up my copy of Alien vs Predator, but I think it DID show everything rather normally.

The default Alien view had a large FoV and the only "distinct" feature (that I can remember, at least) was the outline around other living creatures.

As it is, the default Kharaa vision is just like that of the humans. I did indeed use it when I tried to learn how to fire bile bombs, but that is only because the bile bomb is not clearly visible in the enhanced vision. Once you figure out the trajectory, you don't need to switch back to it.

I actually never use the alien vision because the range isn't as far as normal vision and detail is les (as in depth). It also gives me less "awareness" of my surroundings.

Only time I use it is just after a power node dies and everything is dark, but as soon as the emergy ligtning turns on my alien vision is back to off again.

Although the Kharaa vision stuff is interesting. I wanted to make sure the ideas of recent servers was not forgotten.

Another idea would be to display the name of the server you just left when you leave (and maybe have a self dismissing button to favorite it).

But, honestly any of these ideas would be fine. And I am having a lot of trouble figuring out which servers I enjoy playing on because I never remember what server I am on after 1.5 of NS2.

Is this the best place to have this idea so that it can be seen by the developers or should we create a thread somewhere else?

Don't you know, developers read every post as it comes in. That is why we are on build 245 not 542...

Joking. Just saw a good jab.
