c) magic penis ?
d) its just magic!

could be c), i guess
(maybe there is a TSF-training course for such special movement before marines approach the enemy territory)

give this game a break! nobody even noticed weird ladder climbing in games not so long ago (all the older FPS I know). and even in most games today, ladder climbing is still the most buggy, trippy, unrealistic looking part which sometimes bears the risk of serious health loss / suicide...
also, marines should be able to shoot while using ladders imo so they can't use their hands for realistic hands-on-ladder animations.
simple way to fix this: hide weapon model and arms while climbing (I think HL1 did that).
On a serious note, I would like to see the reload animation interrupted during a ladder climb, regardless of HOW I'm climbing. Just seems cheating.
Anyway that maybe the reason why females are not recruited to TSF combat...
