I think some people are quite jaded- if it was "proper" fan service where there's only one type of alien (I guess a Queen at the end, too) and it was only focused on horror it'd be a one-trick pony and might get samey very quickly.
That said, the faces of the marines looks crap (maybe higher detail on a PC?) and marines using melee attacks to beat the aliens is painful to watch.
I think from what I've seen, my decision balances on the quality of the PC port.
If I were in charge of an Alien game, I'd make it like this.
1) Only one Alien. This one will be just like the first movie. Smart. Terrifying. Fast. Merciless. It's blood will genuinely kill marines and melt floors several layers deep.
2) It will be on a ship. Kind of like Dead Space's Ishimura, but not as big.
3) It will be co-op. You and your buddies. Maybe someone can play as the Alien, else it would be AI controlled.
4) Do you know FTL? You and your buddies actually have to fly the ship and keep it operational. The Alien can knock out power, someone has to go back and repair it before the ship crashes into an asteroid, etc.
5) Game ends when all the marines are dead. Or maybe the Alien dies. Not likely unless you and your buddies save your ammo or figure out a way to set a trap and flush the Alien out of the airlock. (The ship should have a lot of goodies and environmental traps).
In a multiplayer game you WILL NOT give a fuck about the character models, unless you at point blank range, which you almost never are.
How are animations and graphics proof that gameplay is crap ?
The animations are almost onpar with L4D2.You don´t whine about that do you ? Different engines of course but still.
People whine in the NS2 forums that perfomance is very important, WELL it seems that is not going to be an issue here(unless they f-ed up and it is badly optimized), so stfu.
Aliens look squishy ? REALLY ?
This is all coming from someone, who bought AVP2010.I am VERY careful wheter to buy this or not.I probably won´t in any case since NS2 seems better for me.Also there are lots of OTHER red flags warning me about this game, but goddamn it don´t list the worst ones, that don´t matter a single bit once you are in the game.

Oh I dunno, the points made by Scythe and Svenpa are quite obviously present in the game footage and as a result we've drawn conclusions. Seems legit to me...
Been watching footage of the game. While the SP seems bog-standard, I've been watching the multiplayer people have been playing (on consoles since some stores broke the street dates) and it looks really fun. Aliens can kill marines in several hits and can attack really fast, and they can also swipe off body parts (saw an alien crush a guys head in and the animated blood effects look really good too). MP maps have vents too, and are fairly dark so the aliens can actually hide, and they have a range of customizations, from aesthetics to different unlockable abilities to make them more versatile in combat.
Looks loads better then AvP 2010 with it's rock-paper-scissors melee system where if you didn't spam E all you would do to kill a marine was b*tch-slap him really slowly till he died and hope he didn't block you.
It seems like MP is where this game will shine, especially if you get a couple of good players on each side. The movie sounds are spot on, the maps are dark and have a lot of good ambush spots, etc. I can't wait to play survivor and escape, and be able to set up perimeters with sentry guns and weld doors shut.
While it did look pretty slow and vanilla, those alien players were playing ground-aliens. They can climb on walls but no one was. It's like showing 5 minutes of 1/2 speed skulks running in a straight line on the floor and getting killed. Could be awesome if aliens stayed that squishy but could kill in a hit or two.

There is little point getting your hopes up for MP as it is woeful so much so I would say its borderline unplayable and definitely worse than the campaign with its only redeeming feature being that you can customize your marine appearance but aside from that look forward to a bare-bones glitch fest.
From the games I had wall running was useless and feels incredibly disorientating as the third person camera jutters and bounces in every direction with no smooth flow it just feels like your magnetized to the exact geometry of the walls rather than skimming over it.
Also regarding the aliens being weak I'd say thats not the case with some of the frankly disproportionately OP nature of the aliens unlock-able "abilities" coupled with rubbish hit reg and lag sometimes make them hard to kill, for example the soldier has this charge and lunge attack that people just love to spam continuously and when they are juttering about your screen its difficult to hit them.
Pretty much confirmed now that the game is out before street date on 360/PS3 and I have been watching the lets play and other gameplay videos which makes me relieved that I saved my cash. I mean we all knew it but deep down inside we wanted it to be a good game. Honestly it reminds me of Duke Nukem Forever alien edition.
Honestly it looks and plays like a 5 year old game. I didn't want to get hyped and for the most point I wasn't but even so deep down there was still a part of me with a slight glimmer of hope but thats been destroyed now, erased by gearboxes incompetents.
Well I'm just wondering why Gearbox just took a crap on their rep again. I mean praising and launching DnF was one thing. Heck they even had their fans defend them by saying it went through dev hell and they did their best. But this? They just straight up lied about the game and have no excuses. In any case I liked this review best, might be some spoilers

Wow. Randy Pitchford even LOOKS like a lying sack of excrement. Plaid shirt unbuttoned at the top, neckbeard, the shifty eyes and body movement.
I got this game and i will warn you, this game is crap compared to Ns2.
The only "oooookay" part is the coop on hardest difficulty.
After playing Aliens Colonial Marines, I AM SO HAPPY about ns2 and feel home playing it.
Gearbox fail so much, i hate them for sucking my money, i mean borderlands 2 was not that bad but also not that good.
Thank you Unknown Worlds Entertainment for this great game, you did a good job so far (for a little indie developer!)!

best video of it yet. apparently the alien AI is breakthrough amazing. And by breakthrough amazing, I mean the aliens develop a conscience and decide not to attack you at all, provided you run fast.
That vid is almost right on the money, its like they only really began development when the game was put back last year.
What really kills is for me is that there is a few sections of the game (like the Hadleys hope sections) that actually make you think "hey this could actually get good" but then your immediately slapped down to reality by nonsense like a lurker lunging you into a quick time event through a wall or your AI team mate getting stuck in a doorway and then somehow teleporting (with an actual blue flash no less) in-front of you a few minutes later.

the game was rushed to release, sega didn't ferking give gearbox enough time and they KNEW they through the game upon a company with a few other games already being made at the time, gearbox actually made a fantastic game, it's just buggy as all hell because they didn't have the time to beta-test it effectively.

Hell it went through like 4 or 5 companies before gearbox, didn't it? so they didn't exactly get the first piece of the cake when it came to making the game, they took what they could, patched it up, storified it, and polished as much as they could just before release, why the heck is everyone butchering it?!

Fingers crossed for a hardcore mode for MP!
Aliens can kill in like 3 swipes or a tail strike and a swipe which are almost instant to execute, they seem pretty powerful to me.
Some classes have the ability to quickly dodge too.

Gearbox you suck at making games.
Seems like they mainly outsourced it.
They are on live at the time of posting, showing Colonial Marines gameplay.

Because the multiplayer in AvP2 was pants. That's why :P
