Exo won't shoot when aiming at aliens

Hey, loving the game but for some reason all of a sudden my exos will not shoot when i'm aiming at aliens. It can shoot at their buildings and kind of when they are at a great distance but as soon as the reticle goes directly over them then it just stops. I have to aim around aliens and hope it sprays enough to hit them a little bit and only use single exos so that i can punch them. I verified integrity on steam, i have no workshop mods of any kind and I cannot figure this out. Any thoughts or does anyone else have this problem?

Checked for mouse issues; hardware, driver, software? Also, there is a technical support forum.

Just on the off chance you're not aware, the guns will overheat and stop firing after 3-4 seconds if you hold the triggers down. Were you aware of that?

This sounds like a cool bug to squash. Maybe upload a video for the devs?

Sounds like some third party software malfunctioning

The Exo has no code that involves object-dependent fire capability. There is only code to stop your fire when the guns are overheating. Maybe some wired server mod COULD do that. But I doubt it.

Afaik the exos have trouble shooting if you turn around too fast. Read a post here on the forums, could not confirm it though.

I'm not sure if they fixed it, but I think the problem was related to low fps. You can try it by limiting your fps with the "maxfps" command (e.g. "maxfps 5" in console).

I definitely had this problem, too. The miniguns were starting and stopping and starting and stopping.. no matter how hard I pressed my mouse buttons.

Firing rate should no longer be tied to fps, that was fixed a while back.
But something is definitely occurring for you.. so if you can reproduce it that'd be amazing! Video or otherwise.
    Thanks!

I get the same thing occasionally. I just always thought I had let the mouse button go in a panic :S

Get me video of this! :)
    I can't reproduce it

Be sure to use r_stats in the console

Ns2 will completely disregard keystrokes if the fps gets too low. Especially noticeable with shadowstepping more than once due to the particles, lerk flapping when lots of enemies on screen and exo miniguns due to the amount of particles. And also like someone said turning too fast when using exo since that will further make the fps fluctuate.

Its not that the firerate would be dependent on fps, just the registering of the keypress itself.

    Dual minigun exo:
What @Biscum said, same happened to me a 2-3 weeks ago on a combat server, couldn't reproduce/didnt happen anymore after. (but i also rarely play exo, or pub combat in general - which is the only times i get to play exo :P)

It seemed like it mainly happened against fades and onis that got very close to me. (so it made the impression that it had something to do with collision -> makes no sense)

How will you see in a video, that someone isn't releasing the mouse button? You can't show this bug in a video.
Have you tried changing your max_fps to some ridiculously low values like 5 and than try to fire the exo weapons, as someone already mentioned in this thread?

I can now imagine a bug that was introduced with the fix of fps-dependent firing speed, because of the spin-up time of the exo miniguns.

If it's indeed collision, and I'm fairly sure it is, it should be fairly easy to reproduce it and make a video. Anyone on it? I would but I'm on mobile internet for a few more weeks.

    @necro:
    Easy to distinguish.
Trusting the user isn't wasting time, and is actually holding m1 for starters.
Secondly if I can see the fps, it should coincide with the ceasing fire perfectly - something that is hard to do with human reaction times. Not to mention the results wouldn't be consistent if faked. Again though.. why would someone do this?

You are right though for most other input related vids. You'd have to be taking off screen video with your phone or something.

The general dropping of input with severely low fps (sub 10) is evident in almost any game I believe? At least I've experienced this personally, countless times (hello crysis 1 on release day) it may not be fixable but I'm not sure. : shrug:

It's not FPS. Unless it happens at like 40-50 fps because that's around what I get in an Exo late game.

Try having an Onos or Fade circle very close around you and hold down M1.

Sorry I don't really have FRAPS or anything capable of recording video. It comes in goes but I have noticed that it is related to how fast I move the mouse in addition to the looking at aliens. Even when not in an exo lately if I hold the trigger and spin it stutters, not terrible like with the exo because the gun doesn't have to spin back up but definitely noticeable. I was really hoping someone else had experienced it and knew of an easy fix. I will try the FPS limit when I get back on this weekend though.

Also I keep my settings at the bare minimal as my computer barely makes the requirements. I didn't have this problem at all when it first came out but I'm not sure exactly what patch it started with.

Off topic and from a mod.... But why not.
Had the LMG 'jam' several times last night while playing MvM. Would not abbot or bash and had full mag. Fixed via reload. Maybe related since MvM shouldn't have nodded anything in the gun code AFAIK.

If the exo locks up again, try reloading, stupid as it sounds... I would laugh if it works.

I uninstalled and reinstalled and it seemed to work for a game but then it was back to messing up. I also tried turning it off and on again.

Can you record this? Via the built in record feature?

Also, fraps has a trial version that takes 30 second clips

I've had my gun jam a couple of times [with my FPS being fine at 30ish and on norm MvA], if i remember correctly i could reload but it still wouldn't shoot afterwards (i might be wrong though, my memory is an arse). Picking up another gun fixed it, or dropping my gun and picking it back up fixed it too. It's not the best fix, especially in a massive firefight, but hell, it adds a nice sense of tension to the clutastrophuck.

Your mouse is dying, bro. Find a spare one and confirm.

I'm guessing your mouse is wireless, with low polling and worn out microswitch.

This is easy enough to verify. If I am wrong I'll change my signature to proclaim my wrongness.

Right, everytime he sits in an exo, his mouse registers that and stops working...
Edit: What if he (or his mouse) is cursed? You should check out your local exorciser.

    That's hilarious.

Maybe it has something to do with those target popup things when you look at an alien in the Exo UI.

Iron horse, how much load does using the record function add? Can you guestimate my FPS drop if I average a bit below 60 at start of game and 40 ish at end?

I wouldn't mind recording all the time incase this pops up.

Bugs are like UFOs, by the time you get your camera out they are gone.
